Remnant 2‘s second DLC, The Forgotten Kingdom, is right around the corner. The upcoming expansion will launch on 23 April, and with Gunfire recently doubling down on clever player builds, we can expect things to get pretty wild.

However, it faces steep competition from another juggernaut. Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is set to release on 21 June, and has a gargantuan level of hype behind it. With both of these eagerly anticipated expansions on the horizon, choosing between one can be tough. However, The Forgotten Kingdom has the edge in one crucial area.

The Forgotten Kingdom Has Pricing On Its Side

Cost-conscious players may favor The Forgotten Kingdom; priced at a budget-friendly $9.99 as a standalone purchase. However, a $24.99 bundle exists for those seeking all three Remnant 2 DLCs, the third of which is yet to be announced. Players who own the game’s Ultimate Edition get the DLC for free.

Meanwhile, Elden Ring fans will have to shell out a bit more. Nearly four times as much, in fact, because Shadow of the Erdtree‘s Standard Edition carries a $39.99 price tag, while bundles with the base game included can reach an eye-watering $99.99.

Shadow Of The Erdtree Is Bigger, But TFK Isn’t Far Behind

You may think The Forgotten Kingdom‘s lower price means it’s quite light on content, but both expansions provide fresh narrative experiences. The Forgotten Kingdom transports players to the Yaesha jungle, where they’ll confront a vengeful spirit and unveil the secrets of a lost tribe. New weaponry, items, and a nature-oriented Invoker archetype cap off the substantial list of additions.

Content-wise, though, you just can’t beat Shadow of the Erdtree. FromSoftware says the DLC will take around 30 hours to complete, making it their largest by far. And the trailer certainly proves it with a huge brand-new map, new bosses, added lore, and everything in between. Elden Ring fans have been going nuts trying to figure out who this new Messmer character is.

Remnant 2 players can access The Forgotten Kingdom via the in-game ‘Adventure Mode’, but those still using last-gen hardware (PS4 and Xbox One) will be left out, as the game is only available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Conversely, Shadow of the Erdtree will be available on both last-gen and current-gen hardware, further scoring it points for accessibility.

For those who enjoy co-op adventures, Remnant 2 offers a one-up, as owners of The Forgotten Kingdom can invite non-owners to join their quests, though only those with the DLC can utilize its exclusive gear. Shadow of the Erdtree will feature co-op, but it’s currently unknown if it’ll improve over Elden Ring‘s multiplayer in any way.

You can’t really go wrong with any of these two expansions. Shadow of the Erdtree will no doubt be a glorious experience, but for those who can’t afford to splurge $40 on an expansion, the budget-minded Remnant 2: The Forgotten Kingdom is a sell that’s beyond compelling.
