The second trailer for the upcoming action movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has been released, giving a sneak peek at Anya-Taylor Joy‘s new look in the prequel. However, fans are left in awe as the actress is seen in a buzzed cut in one of the footage from the trailer. Her new look bore a striking resemblance to Charlize Theron’s version of the character in Mad Max: Fury Road

Her shaved look comes as quite a shocker for fans as it is the look that Furiosa ( Theron) has flaunted previously in the 2015 movie. Even the actress herself revealed that the film director rejected her idea when she offered to shave her head for her role. 

Anya Taylor-Joy Wanted to Shave Her Head for Furiosa Role

In an interview with the Empire Magazine, The Witch actress expressed her sincere intentions to shave her head for her new action flick. She was ready to follow in her predecessor’s footsteps, but unfortunately director, George Miller turned the idea down.

“I was so excited to shave my head. Then George saw me in real life, and went, ‘No, we can’t!’”

Initially, Theron urged Miller to kickstart the project but later on, the Split actress stepped in to portray the younger version of Theron’s character. 

“She said, ‘Please, George, can we make this first?’. It was the first time I realized that there’s something really strong in this story.”

Whereas, the Emmy-winning actress shared that Theron has “been so classy and kind in letting me go and do it.”

She has utmost respect for her senior who gave great depth to her character. Talking about Theron, the 27-year-old actress revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast,

“I fell in love with Furiosa, the way that Charlize presented her. She did such an incredible job and it was so beautiful and I can’t even think about trying to step into her shoes. It has to be something different because it just can’t be done.”

Anya Taylor-Joy’s new film follows a young Furiosa who is kidnapped by Chris Hemsworth’s Warlord Dementus and finds herself searching for her way back home to the Green Place of Many Mothers.

The movie will be released in the United States on 24 May 2024.
