Two decades after the original movie premiered, the rebooted musical comedy Mean Girls (2024) hit the theatres. But shockingly, since the movie made its way to the big screen on January 12, the star of the original film, Lindsay Lohan, took offense at a joke that was featured in the movie.
Lindsay Lohan played Cady Heron in the original Mean Girls in 2004, and now, years later, that very role is being played by Angourie Rice in the 2024 adaptation. In the film, there’s a sequence wherein Megan Thee Stallion uses the term “fire crotch” to support Rice’s character, which was infamously associated with Lohan. And thus, Lohan expressed disappointment over the new joke.
The Musical Adaptation Mean Girls Cracked a Joke
Following the success of the original Mean Girls movie in 2004, Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. came up with the recent musical adaptation of the original movie. Hitting the theatres on January 12, 2024, the Mean Girls reboot created quite a buzz among fans and netizens.
As the 2004 version of Mean Girls and its jokes were starting to get outdated, director Samantha Jayne came up with the rebooted musical. And now the inside jokes and the cast have been renewed for fans to feel connected once again. But in the recent movie, there’s one joke, that highly offended the original star Lindsay Lohan.

According to reports from Variety, the musical adaptation Mean Girls, featured Megan Thee Stallion in a social media montage saying, “We are going back red. Y2K fire crotch is back!” to show her support for Angourie Rice’s character Cady Heron. Now in the original film, the role of Cady was played by Lindsay Lohan, who was slammed with the derogatory nickname “fire crotch” by Brandon Davis.
Lindsay Lohan is Upset With the Mean Girls Joke
As per a 2006 paparazzi video, Brandon Davis, a longtime pal of Paris Hilton, was heard making a number of crude comments about Lindsay Lohan during a night out in Los Angeles. The music manager and oil heir Davis made awful remarks about Lohan’s body and branded the actor a “fire crotch”.
“I think she’s worth about $7 million, which means she’s really poor. It’s disgusting. She lives in a motel. And she’s got a fire crotch… Lindsay Lohan, she’s a fire crotch.” Davis told via TheLA Times.
These comments undoubtedly had a grave impact on Lindsay Lohan and haunted her. Thus, after years when she witnessed the new adaptation of Mean Girls offering a distasteful reference to her derogatory nickname in the disguise of a joke, Lohan felt offended by it.
Finding an unavoidable connection between how Megan Thee Stallion used the 2006 nickname to support Angourie Rice’s character Cady Heron, which was originally played by Lohan herself, the actress expressed her disappointment. Her publicist stated via a statement to The LA Times, “The ‘joke’ was hurtful, and Lindsay was disappointed.”
Further, the actress’ representative Leslie Sloane told E! News, “Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film.” Following the comments about Lohan’s disappointment in the movie, several outlets reached out to the Mean Girls writer Tina Fey and Paramount Pictures for their responses and opinions on the same.
Mean Girls (2004) is available for streaming on Apple TV.
