Fans were hopeful that the original cast would somehow come back, but as was confirmed, the show is not a reboot but rather a new series based in a different office setting. Being developed by Daniels, the creator has also roped in Michael Konman to help (via Variety).

While the American Office had an impeccable ensemble of cast aka Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and more, the new Office will have a brand new cast. As per the recent update by VarietyThe White Lotus star Sabrina Impacciatore and Star Wars actor Domhnall Gleeson have been cast in the upcoming series in unrevealed roles.

While both actors are incredible at their crafts, fans have had mixed reactions, with the majority of them already having lost their faith in the series after hearing the casting news.

Fans Are Not Happy With The New The Office

Fans believe a new cast or storyline can destroy the legacy of The Office (2005)

Sabrina Impacciatore is known best for her incredible role in The White Lotus and even picked up two Best Supporting Actress Emmy nominations. Meanwhile, Domhnall Gleeson was recently seen in Alice & Jack and has garnered a fan following thanks to his role in the Star Wars and Harry Potter franchise.

While fans were already not happy with the upcoming Office series due to the absence of the original cast, having a whole new cast to try it all again has been devastating for them. After having actors as iconic as Carell or Krasinski, fans are not elated to witness new actors step into a similar setting and try to live up to their predecessors.

Time is a witness that many reboots or series based on another series have failed most times. From Prison Break to Heroes Reborn, or 24: Legacy, reboots have failed over and over again thanks to the absence of the original cast despite familiar settings.

Meanwhile, reboots like Mr. and Mrs. Smith or Doctor Who have managed to garner huge acclaim without the original cast or the storyline. So, it will be worth the wait to see whether The Office will pull up a similar feat as its predecessor or end up being listed in Hollywood’s Hall of Shame, just like countless soft reboots before it.

The Office can be streamed on Netflix, while the release date for the new series is yet to be revealed.
