In an interview with Collider‘s Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub for Prime Video’s Upload Season 3, Daniels shared a few insights about the possibility of a reboot for The Office. But he didn’t provide a clear “yes” or “no” answer.

Even though he didn’t tell the possibility of a reboot, he noted that a previous report from Puck News generated momentum due to the ongoing fan interest.

He added that he would certainly make an announcement if a reboot becomes a reality. Daniels also revealed that he had discussions with NBC about the potential of an Office reboot, saying:

“Well, I think that it’s very speculative. The fact that it kind of blew up based on one line in a puck piece was kind of cool, I guess, in the sense that the fans still care a lot. But the thing I would say is, when there’s something to announce, I will definitely announce it.”

No doubt, fans are eager for the show’s reboot, but there is no guarantee that the project will become a reality. And even if it does, it’s still a long way off.

Not Only The Office Reboot is Uncertain, But Even the Original Cast Return is Not Guaranteed

Daniels was asked about the potential for new storylines in a reboot because social media and technology have evolved over the past decade. On that, the showrunner said that cell phones could offer interesting opportunities for the show. He went on to say (via Collider):

“Yeah, it’s an interesting question. When you watch old movies it’s like a game to identify what wouldn’t work when everybody had a cell phone. You know what I mean? Like all the story moves of people like, ‘Oh, they just missed you. Oh, dang.’ Now maybe I’ll get on that boat and go to, you know, it’s just like, ‘Oh, how frustrating if you only had a cell phone.’ I mean, it’s an interesting question for sure.”

Besides the confirmation of The Office reboot, there’s not even a guarantee that any of the original cast members, including Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, and several more, would return.
