“Rebel Moon” might not have gotten universal acclaim, but it definitely made a splash on streaming services. Zack Snyder’s signature style was on full display, with dazzling visuals and a great vision that also offered a glimpse into what Star Wars could have been if Snyder directed it.
While Star Wars has C-3PO, Rebel Moon introduces Jimmy, an android unlike any other. Unlike a simple sidekick, Jimmy has depth and complexity, a far cry from a mere C-3PO copycat. He stole the show for many viewers and a whole lot of credit goes to the man behind the voice, Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Fans tuned into Rebel Moon to watch the epic space opera and many stayed because they found themselves charmed by Jimmy. Of course, it’s not every day you see the All-Father Odin himself voicing an exploited android knight for Motherworld’s military. That’s just the kind of versatility Sir Anthony Hopkins brings to the table.
In a recent interview with Looper, Zack Snyder shed light on the casting process that brought the legendary actor to the project. He revealed that the producer Scott Stuber tossed the idea of having Hopkins play the role and that Snyder was very enthusiastic about making it possible. To make things much easier, the actor picked up the role pretty easily because it sounded fun.
“Thanks to [producer] Scott Stuber in some ways, because Scott was like, “Why don’t we get Tony to play Jimmy?” And I was like, “Oh, why don’t we get? Yeah, you tell me why not? Because if we can get him, then of course. Anthony Hopkins? Don’t just say that you can do it.” Yeah. So we talked to him and I had a couple of conversations with him on the phone about who Jimmy was, and he was like, “Yeah, that sounds fun” and I was like, “Okay. Wow.” And yeah, and he’s been a joy every time I go. And even I photographed him for my photo book, and he was really … Just an incredible icon. So fun.”
Eventually, Hopkins voiced the android and helped make the character the best among the lot.
Jimmy Will Get A Bigger Role In The Director’s Cut Of Rebel Moon
The two parts of Rebel Moon will get an extended cut somewhere near August of this year, as per Snyder. While not much has been revealed about what to expect from the director’s cut, he revealed a pleasant detail about it while speaking to Looper.
“It’ll be interesting for you when you see the director’s cuts because there’s so much more Jimmy. It’s probably another half an hour of Jimmy in the director’s cuts, which will be fun for you probably if you’re a fan of his.”
The Justice League director revealed that fans will find it interesting to see the director’s cut because of much more content of Jimmy. Before watching the android’s extended adventures during Part One, fans will watch him take a bigger role in Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, which lands on Natflix on April 19, 2024.
