These unique features are evident in Lynch’s 1997 erotic thriller, Lost Highway featuring Patricia Arquette.
The film was a David Lynch masterclass, where he effortlessly filled the audience with a sense of dread and uneasiness with every scene of the film. However, the actress had an eerie experience on the set of the film, where she had to do a n*de scene, but the men on Lynch’s crew were saying insensitive things about her, which all came to a halt when the director unleashed his fury on the crew.
David Lynch Was Fuming At His Crew For Their Demeaning Comments
With identity, guilt, and the nature of human reality as its core themes, David Lynch’s 1997 masterpiece tells the most striking narratives that break the psyche of the protagonist. The film constantly challenged the traditional methods of storytelling, featuring a disoriented and convoluted narrative that kept the viewers at the edge of their seats.
The film featured Patricia Arquette in the lead female role, where she had to play two different roles, the first being an adulterer cheating on her jazz-musician husband and the other being a temptress seducing a mechanic. However, she had a “terrifying” experience in the film, while performing a str*p scene in the film.
During an exclusive with Series Mania via Variety, the actress shared was petrified to do a scene where she had to take a bath in the dark, but before that, she had to strip off her clothes. The actress was made more uncomfortable by the male crew members present on the set, passing derogatory remarks about her. However, Arquette credits David Lynch for scolding the crew members for their comments.
She said,
“I was so extremely modest: I would take a bath in the dark. The scene when my character had to strip was terrifying to me. Some of the guys were saying crude things and I told David: ‘I am not comfortable – they are saying gross things.’ He said: ‘You read the script. Wait, who said what?’ When I came back, all these men were looking at their feet, all apologetic.”
Nevertheless, this was not the first instance when she faced a difficult time on the set of the 1997 film. The Boyhood actress was furious, when filming an intimate scene, and decided to stand up for herself.
Patricia Arquette Was Furious While Filming a S*x Scene in Lost Highway
The 1997 cult classic film featured a number of n*de scenes in the film, and the actress had quite a difficult time doing the explicit scenes in the movie. In the same interview, Arquette shared how she had to showcase her tough side when she had to film her explicit scene.
She said,
“I do have a tough side, I’ll tell ya. It was supposed to be a closed set. I said: ‘If I take this robe off and I look at you, and I know you don’t have to be there, I am going to punch you in the face. Later, I told Balthazar [Getty, playing her love]: ‘Just keep your hands on my t**s. I would rather you hold them than the whole world saw them’.”
Needless to say, the True Romance actress did not have a comfortable time shooting the 1997 film, but that did not stop her from giving an outstanding performance in the film. The film grossed $3.8 million at the box office.
