Iñaki Godoy’s Understanding of Monkey D. Luffy as a Character

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Godoy discussed a lot of things about his experience while filming the first season of the One Piece live-action series. Along with that, he also shared what he initially understood about Luffy as a character and how he looked at it while he was preparing for his role.

He stated:

“I had to understand that I’m playing a character who is unlike anything I’ve ever played, someone who is extraordinary, someone who has a capability of making people follow him anywhere he goes, someone who follows his dreams, who trusts his gut, and who doesn’t care what others think…The moving thing about Luffy is that he doesn’t really change too much. Instead, he changes the world around him with his way of being.”

According to Iñaki Godoy, Luffy is an extraordinary character who can make people follow him just because of his personality. Iñaki Godoy Wants To Play a Villain One Day

During the interview, Godoy was asked about his future and he stated that he wanted to film as many One Piece live-action seasons as he possibly could. However, he did explain that he has ambitions to play an unredeemable villain in the future. “Someone who is horrible and who loves being horrible”- because it’s just so different from who he is in real life.

He believes that playing a villainous character like Blackbeard might help him diversify his acting experience and give him a chance to understand the mind of a negative character. For now, he is focused on Luffy and his adventure in the second season of One Piece live-action as the series moves towards the Alabasta saga.

The actor has begun his preparations for the second season and will soon be joined by other cast members from the One Piece live-action and together they will embark on a new journey to find new crewmates and enemies, taking them one step closer to their dreams.
