The trailer mostly showcases iconic scenes and the unsettling vibes of the game, which have received a fresh layer of paint with upgraded visuals. The actress Hayden Panettiere appears in a quick shot, just before The Psycho’s mask fills the screen.

As revealed in a post on the PlayStation Blog, the game is being rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 with new and improved character animations, environments, and VFX. The remaster is also intended to offer “more emotional depth.”

New perspectives, including a third-person camera, as well as contextual animations and an upgraded soundscape will allow for a more immersive and nuanced cinematic experience to draw players into the horrors and emotional challenges of the game.

The remaster will also feature new story parts, as well as locations, interactions, and collectibles that weren’t in the original title.

Until Dawn was originally released in 2015. The interactive horror game and movie is set on Blackwood Mountain, where a group of friends find themselves trapped in a mountain cabin. Through a decision-driven cinematic experience with branching dialogs, it’s in the player’s hand to decide who lives and dies and which challenges the characters will have to overcome.

The original was created by Supermassive Games and released exclusively for PS4. A series of spinoffs and the spiritual successor The Quarry followed, fueling the interactive game’s popularity.

The remaster is in development at Ballistic Moon, while the PC port is rumored to be in the works at Virtuos, the team that has already ported several big titles, including Horizon Zero Dawn and The Outer Worlds to other platforms.

It’s a great time to be an Until Dawn fan, as the slasher is also getting the movie treatment. An adaptation for the big screen was recently announced, with Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg directing. The Nun author Gary Dauberman and The Invitation writer Blair Butler will be in charge of the screenplay to bring the interactive game onto the big screen.
