The franchise has benefitted from the director’s point of view from his youth and his return to Santa Monica Studios with a brand new perspective which was also integrated into his project. While Barlog did not assume responsibility for directing God of War: Ragnarok, he still made a significant contribution and now is working on a brand new project.

Yesterday, Sony Santa Monica Studios celebrated the 19th anniversary of the God of War franchise and reminisce their glory days from the original trilogy. Cory then took to his X page and shared his optimism about his upcoming project and made fans excited.

The director is known for engaging with fans in the past which is also a wise method to market his games, but there aren’t a whole lot of details regarding Barlog’s project. There is a chance it could be the canceled project before God of War 2018 or something else entirely. Sony is always looking for more ways to bolster the lineup of their first party exclusives which would prompt them to give their studios more leeway to develop.

Regardless, the studio and director have proven plenty and always pulled through by delivering a satisfying triple-A gaming experience. Sony went ahead and let their fans decide which one of their exclusives is the superior PlayStation title and ultimately chose God of War: Ragnarok. The results were not that surprising given the quality of their story and content.

Could Santa Monica Studio Be Moving Away From God Of War?

While a lot of people were upset that the studio decided to settle for only two games about the Norse Saga, the journeys of the characters are not over. Recent leaks are saying that there are more than one God of War related projects and it could involve remakes or remasters, or even the possibility of a spinoff title based around Atreus. Sony and PlayStation are well aware of the legacy of Kratos and will honor his journey of redemption with future content.

Cory Barlog is one of the people who are responsible for the success of the God of War franchise and a key player within the ranks of Santa Monica Studio. The director’s previous works has earned him respect and recognition within the entertainment industry and regardless if he is working on a new IP or on a new entry to an existing franchise, trust that he and the team will deliver.
