Star Wars: KotOR Remake was officially announced in 2021 during the PlayStation Showcase and is currently in development at Saber. Sony shocked fans when it removed the trailer for the game from its YouTube channel, which it later addressed, saying it was due to an expired music license.

There were also speculations that the game might be dead. However, Saber Interactive’s CEO Matthew Karch recently said that the game is “alive and well,” but it seems like it may not be interesting enough for the investors as an insider claims that SIE has moved on from the project.

Saber CEO Matthew Karch said that the studio is working on the game and is dedicated to exceeding “consumer expectations.” While this made fans happy that the game is still in development, players have started wondering if Sony is still involved with the game as the removed trailers for the game have not been relisted again.

All these questions and years of development have led to fans wondering if the game would be any good, and seemingly SIE is thinking something like that too. In a reply to a post on X/Twitter, insider Jeff Grubb said that Sony wants “nothing to do” with KotOR Remake anymore, and this is the reason why he thought the game would not be seeing the light of day.

He further added, “Obviously, though, Saber still seems very determined. And I have a lot of trust in Saber.” It was Grubb who had previously said that SIE has moved on and pulled funding despite having the co-publishing rights for the game, which isn’t really shocking given the tumultuous history of the game, but if it’s indeed true, this may be a good chance for Xbox to jump for it.

Could Xbox Make an Exclusive of KotOR Remake?

Xbox has the opportunity to make the game exclusive after the original.

Jeff Grubb is well-known in the industry and is very well-connected within the development community. He has also been on the remake ever since the first reveal, and his claims have proven to be right. It seems like he may be right that SIE is moving away from KotOR, so this presents a good opportunity for Xbox to take the game and make it exclusive.

KotOR is one of the most popular Star Wars titles, and given how much players want the game, it could bring back the platform in the fight. Moreover, Xbox needs as many better exclusives as it can to make up for the fact that players think every other game might soon be on other platforms.

Moreover, after seeing the success of exclusives like Marvel’s Spider-Man, the company has jumped to Marvel with Marvel’s Blade, and it only makes sense for it to get the game off the hands of SIE and make the best of it for its platform and gamers.

It also wouldn’t be hard to get the rights, as the company has already brought some games to PSN. What are your thoughts about Xbox going for KotOR Remake? Let us know in the comments.
