For fans of superhero flicks, particularly those enthralled by the film adaptation of Webslinger, the Sinister Six film has emerged as something of a holy grail. For a variety of reasons, this film was never made, which makes the disappointment all the more painful. The worst thing about the movie might be how many moving parts it already had, including the casting.

MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, a new book, went into great detail about the studios’ rise to fame. According to the book,[Drew Goddard] had a draft that took Spider-Man and his villains to the Savage Land, where Spider-Man would ride a T-Rex,” which was confirmed.

1. Vulture – John Malkovich

Screen Rant claims that considering Vulture was supposed to be the primary antagonist of Tobey Maguire’s scrapped Spider-Man 4, the character would have been terrifying. Sam Raimi had cast John Malkovich in the role of the Vulture but the film never made it to the big screen.

Malkovich’s Vulture would have been “a private contractor” who “did not leave anything but bones behind” when he was done, according to storyboard artist Jeffrey Henderson for Spider-Man 4.

However, Vulture was ultimately revealed as the antagonist in Spider-Man: Homecoming, portrayed by Michael Keaton.

2. Rhino – Paul Giamatti

Rhino would have also appeared in the scrapped Sinister Six film. The character was first portrayed on screen by Paul Giamatti in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where he deviated significantly from the physical transformation of the comic book character by donning a mechanical Rhino suit. Presently, Rhino is scheduled to make his grand debut in 2024’s Kraven the Hunter, starring Alessandro Nivola.

3. Doctor Octopus – Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem was going to play a villain eventually, and he might as well have played Doctor Octopus. To put it simply, Bardem has portrayed some of the greatest antagonists in Hollywood history in films like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Skyfall. His talents could, therefore, have been used in the superhero genre.

Although, realistically, the Oscar-winning actor could turn his evil hand to any number of Marvel villains, the moral complexity of the character makes Doctor Octopus feel like a perfect fit.

4. Green Goblin – Joaquin Phoenix

In Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man film trilogy (2002–2007), Willem Dafoe portrayed the Green Goblin. Characters like this need to be somewhat physically strong and insane. Joaquin Phoenix would have been a great choice for such a villainous role because of his captivating on-screen persona and proven versatility. His capacity to strike a balance between charm and lunacy, as seen in movies like The Joker, would have given the Green Goblin a whole new meaning.

5. Electro – Jamie Foxx

The character Electro, which was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, was featured in both the live-action Spider-Man 2 (2014) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). And it was played by the Ray star Jamie Foxx. His range as an actor has thus been consistently shown. He can also give complicated characters depth, which would have made Mysterio an engaging presence in the abandoned Sinister Six movie.

6. Black Cat – Anne Hathaway

Black Cat is an enticing anti-heroine who skillfully balances between good and evil. Initially portrayed as a supervillain and Spider-Man’s opponent, the character eventually develops feelings for him, leading her to transform into an antiheroine and his partner.

Though Anne Hathaway portrayed Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, she was (as per MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios) set to play Felicia Hardy/Black Cat in the canceled Sinister Six film.
