The official footage picks on where the closing scene left off, with Gi-hun at the airport terminal taking another call. This was possibly from the person we last heard ordering the protagonist to get on the plane, at the end of the first installment.
He then receives a menacing threat from the voice on the other end of the teaser video regarding his decision to stay back. In response, Gi-hun had just the fitting reply, demonstrating that Season 2 will be about the main character getting to the bottom of the mystery surrounding the game, and exacting his revenge.
The upcoming iteration is slated for a 2024 window, which means that the viewers, may soon get the answers to most of the questions previously left unaddressed.

Amid an array of grandly-awaited releases, the second season of Squid Game will be the biggest attraction this year. In the preview, we see Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) still at the airport terminal—a continuation of the ending sequence of the previous season—receiving an ominous call. The voice on the other side says, “You’re going to regret the choice you made.” The scene cuts to a shot of the protagonist leaving the entrance gate with a determined look, an allusion to the upcoming vengeance he’s about to exact. He says, “I will find you. No matter what it takes.”
Following the traumatic events of the first installment, Gi-hun receiving the menacing warning suggests there are still missing pieces in the puzzle. The character, therefore, must delve deeper into the inner workings of the vicious survival game to end its ruthless, depraved cycle once and for all.

Squid Game Showrunner Previously Hinted At What Season 2 Could Focus On
In 2021, Squid Game took the world by storm, becoming a global phenomenon. It left a lasting impact on popular culture, solidifying its place as one of the latest examples of the Korean wave (or Hallyu), captivating audiences everywhere. It’s no wonder that its appeal made it Netflix’s most-watched series. Given that the first installment inflated people’s expectations, it makes sense that viewers would want a masterful resolution to the high stakes the series has painstakingly established.
This is where the second season comes into play. Although what the story will precisely be about has been shrouded in secrecy, it is likely to build on the character arc of Gi-hun. Throughout his journey through the life-threatening game, fans see him undergo several changes. He no longer remains the same man he was when he entered the contest.
Despite his well-meaning demeanor, Gi-hun is initially portrayed to viewers as a gigantic, immature, heedless man-child. “The philosophies I put in season one naturally extend to season two. […] There will naturally be a flow of events […] I can’t share any details yet, but you know that Seong Gi-hun has become a totally new person by the end of season one, so season two is going to be about what that new Gi-hun is going to do and how things will unfold with this new kind of character.”
While Gi-hun’s arc will expand into the canvas of Season 2, there were speculations the forthcoming storyline may also delve into the Frontman’s past. Though there’s no way of discerning how exactly the protagonist will exact his revenge on the creators behind the nefarious contest, it does work toward building anticipation of what’s next.
The questions will soon be answered. Squid Game Season 2 is set to premiere in late 2024 on Netflix.
