Khavari meant to deliver an authentic Star Wars experience and constantly reached out to Lucasfilm Games. Honoring what came before is the first step to true innovation and success.

Khavari knew the risks of potentially tackling the most important moment in Star Wars history but did not falter. The director shared in an interview with GameInformer that the team behind the game would collaborate with Lucasfilm Games to naturally bridge the gaps between projects.

We have a relationship of very close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, and we regularly connect with them on every topic related specifically to our game and story. We really lean on Lucasfilm to ensure we deliver an authentic Star Wars experience because authenticity is absolutely key.

Khavari emphasized the need to do right by the original trilogy while doing something new in the process:

There is an absolute adoration for this galaxy, so we have to get it right, especially doing justice to the original trilogy.

Ubisoft understood the challenge and Lucasfilm gave the developers the support it needed and encouraged the team’s creative vision to expand the universe even more. Khavari opted for the main protagonist, Kay Vess, to be a neutral character during the Galactic Civil War and had no allegiances to any factions.

The idea allowed exploring a certain part of the original trilogy that was not touched upon in the films. The criminal underworld is a fascinating concept that was barely tackled in previous Star Wars projects, apart from spinoff films and Disney+ series like The Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett.

Lucasfilm Games Supported Ubisoft with Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws is the first true open-world game set in a galaxy far, far away.

Early previews have shown that Star Wars Outlaws has the potential to be the greatest Star Wars game and surpass the success of EA and Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi games. Being a fan and a creative, Khavari has the rare opportunity to revisit a popular period while also adding something new and exciting that can appeal to both old and new fans.

Khavari grew up with the original trilogy that shaped the childhoods of many and wanted to return to it and branch out with something different while staying true to the core of Star Wars.

The risk of getting a project related to the franchise is high and eagle-eyed fans will tear it to shreds if they dislike any aspect of it. However, Ubisoft started this project with the hopes of delivering an authentic experience.
