Star Wars Outlaws, the upcoming Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment game, sees the introduction of the Ashiga Clan, placed on familiar land. If you’ve seen Rise of the Skywalker, you’ll know the ice-cold planet of Kijimi, where the clan is based.
But who are they, and why do they hold such significance in Outlaws? Navid Khavari, the game’s narrative director, has revealed key information about this faction in a past interview.
The Ashiga Clan, a New Faction in Star Wars Outlaws
During a Game Informer interview, Khavari explained that the Ashiga Clan is a newly crafted syndicate born from the collaboration between Massive and Lucasfilm Games. Found on Kijimi, the Ashiga Clan operates with a strict code of honor, rooted in a hierarchical Melitto hive structure.
Their worldview revolves around the survival of the collective. As Khavari puts it:
Everything and everyone is judged on their usefulness to the whole.
Khavari paints a vivid picture of the Ashiga Clan’s reach, talking about how they’ve managed to infiltrate every facet of Kijimi’s underworld.
Smuggling, extortion, sabotage, weapons manufacturing—whatever it is, the Ashiga Clan’s got their hands in it across the whole planet. Khavari says:
Wherever a shadow falls on Kijimi, you will find a member of the Ashiga Clan.
In crafting the Ashiga Clan and other elements of Star Wars Outlaws, Khavari reassures fans that it’s being done very carefully.
The development team is closely collaborating with Lucasfilms, ensuring that the foundational spirit and essence of Star Wars aren’t sacrificed while trying to introduce all of these new elements.
Kay Vess, the Protagonist of Outlaws
Star Wars Outlaws stars Kay Vess and her companion, Nix, who have to navigate a tumultuous existence as thieves using their cunning and skill to survive each passing day.
Theirs is a tale of resilience and aspiration, as Kay’s desire to have a life of freedom drives her.
Unfortunately for her, a heist takes an unexpected turn and Kay is thrown into the spotlight as one of the most-wanted criminals in the galaxy. She has to embrace the underworld and team up with criminal syndicates to “pull off one of the greatest heists the galaxy has seen.”
Khavari’s explanation of Kay’s personality shows there are a lot of layers to her. She’s got no qualms with risking it all, has a quick wit, and can be a little impulsive and stubborn, but she’s still figuring things out. He then says:
There’s a self-deprecating vulnerability that felt modern for us to explore, and we wanted to make sure she is relatable as a character navigating stakes that are incredibly high for anyone,
The team has put great thought into Kay Vess, and it’ll be interesting to get to know her as her story unfolds, starting August 27th later this year.
