Throughout the years, Star Wars games have tested multiple waters. From action RPGs to co-op shooters, there’s little that the franchise hasn’t explored before. However, with the arrival of Star Wars Outlaws, players will be diving into an aspect of this universe that they’re not too familiar with.
An interview with the game’s narrative director, Navid Khavari, revealed that he has a deep place in his heart for everything Star Wars, and Outlaws is yet another project that will try its best to tell a story that’s different yet true to a galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars Outlaws Focuses on a Unique Part of a Familiar Universe
When Game Informer spoke to Navid Khavari in an email conversation, a lot was revealed about what Star Wars Outlaws is trying to do with its narrative approach. Usually, fans of the franchise are used to experiencing tales of heroes, villains, and personalities who appear to be larger than life. However, with Star Wars Outlaws, things will happen in a much grittier and darker undertone of this universe.
Navid voiced out the philosophy behind this and why it’s important for Outlaws to tell a story that’s so versatile in nature. More importantly, how it remains true to its source material and the legacy of everything that came before:
We have a relationship of very close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, and we regularly connect with them on every topic related specifically to our game and story. We really lean on Lucasfilm to ensure we deliver an authentic Star Wars experience because authenticity is absolutely key. There is an absolute adoration for this galaxy, so we have to get it right, especially doing justice to the original trilogy.
The narrative director is well-acquainted with the writing and creativity that went into the sci-fi universe, and even the sillier (yet important) parts of this world will try to remain true:
I have a bad feeling about answering that. I’m so sorry. I had to.
Navid Khavari references one of the most well-known phrases in the franchise, further proofing his Star Wars pedigree.
Kay Vess and Nix Will Explore an Exciting and Unconventional World
Kay Vess and her pet companion Nix will be at the center of the Star Wars Outlaws narrative as the players explore different criminal empires and characters who don’t fall into the conventional rhythm of the game.
These otherwise untold stories add a dramatic twist to the Star Wars saga, and seems like Ubisoft will be handling a lot all at once. An open-world experience, an emotional journey, and the promise of a narrative that intertwines everything smoothly.
Only time will tell how these different pieces make Outlaws an experience that’s larger than the sum of its parts, but having Navid Khavari as the narrative director certainly seems hopeful.
