It’s no wonder that giant studios in the film industry in modern times stick with a star that is guaranteed to give them the most return on their investment in a film project, and again, it’s no wonder why Mark Wahlberg is the top choice for many to be a part of a movie they create. Having one of the cleanest track records when it comes to commercial success in the business, his resume speaks volumes to these production houses.

With the level of success that Sony’s video game adaptation of Uncharted achieved featuring the star as well as actor Tom Holland, it’s no wonder that a second film in the series was always on the table. And now, Wahlberg is tasked with growing a mustache, something that he cannot naturally accomplish, as the sequel of the 2022 film gets an update.

In the signature Mark Wahlberg fashion, despite Uncharted being a film that didn’t the expected critical love from the critics as well as fans of the original video game series alike, it still managed to break the box office with a staggering $407 Million at its theatrical run. Thus, people were right to assume that there was another film that might be in the works at Sony for the future.

Thus, when the Ted star recently opened up about the studio contacting him to start growing a mustache for the second film in the series to ScreenRant, it didn’t come as much as a surprise as a sigh of relief.

The star said that he was called by Sony to look exactly like his character Victor Sullivan from the end credit scenes of the first film also featuring Tom Holland as the protagonist because the script of the upcoming film has just arrived, which is easier said than done for him since he cannot grow a beard naturally. He said:

“Actually, I just got a call today that they got the script in.I can’t grow a real beard and mustache, but they said, ‘Start growing your mustache. It’s gonna take awhile.’ I’d be interested to see what the story’s like, and where that adventure takes us. But I’m excited; I know audiences really loved the first one, so we’ll see.”

While he may be aching to dig into this new adventure in the future as soon as the film starts production, he’ll need some major medical help with that mustache in the meantime.

Why Was Uncharted A Success?

Despite the less-than-stellar reviews that the film saw during its theatrical run, the box office collection of Uncharted sang a whole different tune.

Above all else, the film was a joyride of entertainment rather than trying to become a critical statement in the industry, which meant it had something for everyone to enjoy like drama, action, comedy, and everything in between. Along with that, it was also enriched by the fact that it was engaging the audience constantly, not letting them take their eyes off the screen, which made it that much fun to watch in cinemas.

Uncharted, streaming on Hulu.
