Big-time actors always prepare themselves for their roles in movies meticulously, with each actor training and eating a specific way to get the desired body shape for the character they’ll be playing. However, Zac Efron has had a pretty bad experience with the whole method, at least during his preparation for the comedy movie Baywatch.

Efron starred in Seth Gordon’s 2017 movie based on the series of the same name from the 90s. In a recent interview, he talks about his experience working on the movie, revealing further that it got him into a “pretty bad depression”.

Zac Efron Not Muscling Up Anymore After Baywatch

Zac Efron’s appearance in Baywatch was simply body goals for the year 2017, with fans of the action-comedy franchise dying at even the smallest of peeks of Efron in the movie.

The 34-year-old star recently spoke to Men’s Health in an interview this week, in which he reveals he couldn’t care less about looking as good as he did in Baywatch back in 2017. Efron, who according to facebooknewspaper.com, made $500k for his work in the movie, said-

“That Baywatch look, I don’t know if that’s really attainable. There’s just too little water in the skin. Like, it’s fake; it looks CGI’d. And that required Lasix, powerful diuretics, to achieve. So I don’t need to do that. I much prefer to have an extra, you know, 2 to 3 percent body fat.”

Aside from the use of diuretics, Efron further reveals that he was used to having the same three meals every day, and cutting down on his sleeping hours to maintain a certain level of energy he required to keep himself in good shape for the movie.

However, such a level of dedication to the art of keeping fit had negative effects on the Neighbors actor-

“I started to develop insomnia and I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time. Something about that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering. Ultimately they chalked it up to taking way too many diuretics for way too long, and it messed something up.”

That is surely a horrible state to be in, even if it means the world to a job you want to be done perfectly, and in Efron’s case, it was for Baywatch.

During an appearance on the popular spicy-sauce testing Youtube series by Sean Evans called Hot Ones, Efron talked about how the difficult path towards achieving such a body makes having that physique “stupid“-

“That was actually a really important time to do Baywatch. Because I realized when I was done with that movie I don’t ever want to be in that good of shape again. Really. It was so hard. You’re working with almost no wiggle room. You’ve got things like water under your skin you’re worrying about. Making your six-pack into a four-pack. Shit like that that’s just not… it’s just stupid, it’s just not real.”

If you do want to look like how Zac Efron does in Baywatch, we understand. But the restricted lifestyle that Efron had to live with while preparing for the movie, makes working for a body like that not as lucrative as people might think.
