Assassin’s Creed Red will arrive sometime next year and will bring something that fans have been asking for since the debut of the original game back in 2007. Being set in feudal Japan is a win in itself but adding a key feature would immerse players even more.
The franchise has been praised for its visuals, combat, stealth, and appreciation for history, going to different periods which gives developers enough to work with in terms of the environment and how players can utilize their surroundings with stealth, unfortunately, it was missing the ability to go prone.
Assassin’s Creed Red Is Bringing Something New
The 17-year-old franchise has elevated the stealth genre with their insane attention to detail but what stood out was the parkour feature that has become a signature trait in every Assassin’s Creed title. According to an earlier report, the Assassin’s Creed franchise is transitioning to a new era, what that means is that future entries will be more streamlined than they ever did before.
Ubisoft can get more work done by having various teams being unified under a single branch, and utilizing an upgraded version of their in-game engine called the Anvil Pipeline. Being a more fine-tuned engine, this could potentially house more animations which paves the way for players to go prone.
For a game that is about stealth, it was quite jarring that going prone was missing. It may be a small detail but could have a massive impact on satisfying gameplay and a greater immersion. Ubisoft is about to get busy with their IP, perhaps this will be carried over to future Assassin’s Creed titles in the coming years.
Naughty Dog did the same with The Last of Us Part 2 by adding a dodge mechanic, jumping, quick squeeze, and also prone. Known for its high stakes and stealth combat, it was notably missing from the first game, an obvious reason would be that the engine at the time couldn’t figure out how to adjust the physics to the character animations. The studio made it their priority to perfect it in the sequel which they did which grants players more gameplay variety and satisfaction.
Honoring The Past And Present, Assassin’s Creed Red Also Bring Back Features From Recent Titles
Being set in Norway in the Viking era, the gore and brutality in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla were necessary. Showcasing their barbaric ways and realistic combat, Assassin’s Creed Red will also feature intense gore but dialed up to eleven.
Feudal Japan is also an unforgiving place, fighting dirty is a must for this entry. Players will also experience a more detailed fire physics and stealth, despite being around for 17 years, these features are a breath of fresh air.
