What may feel like safe haven to many gamers on PC, Steam has been a humble abode for gamers throughout the decades. In the last few days, the platform saw its highest peak of consecutive players, breaking a record that shows how many people across the globe turn to Steam to play their favorite games.
The digital platform was launched in 2003. Two decades and more than 50k games later, some of the highest-grossing games on Steam keep bringing in new players. It’s likely that we’ll keep seeing this growth and Valve’s gaming hub will continue to thrive.
Steam continues to grow with more than 30,000,000 concurrent players
In a tweet shared by SteamDB, players got a glimpse of how Steam is at the moment, and how it continues to grow. With over 30 million players enjoying their favorite games consecutively, PC gaming undoubtedly showcases the power of attracting players worldwide.
Furthermore, you can find the exact stats on SteamDB. At the time of writing, the number has shifted slightly, to about 26,821,032. However, this still remains a mighty feat, considering the massive player count.
The stats also tell us that, at present, there are more than 7 million players in-game. Whoever you are, keep playing! Despite launchers like Epic and Battle.net having their own exclusive collection of games, Steam seems to have titles that have been in the spotlight for the last many years. Some of them remain free-to-play experiences.
Whether it’s a fully paid game with ocassaionl discounts or free titles with in-game purchases; the reality remains that Valve’s digital game store is home to millions of players who get to choose from a variety of choices. This keeps the playerbase fresh and coming back for more.
What are some of the most played games on Steam at the moment?
If you’re a PC player, you probably would have guessed it; Dota 2 stays at the top as the game with most consecutive players at the moment. This is closely followed by Apex Legends, Baldur’s Gate 3, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Monster Hunter: World. All of these games are quite different from each other, but some of them have a solid online player base with new content dropping frequently.
Moreover, the entire list of games that have a massive fanbase is a mix of single-player and online games. However, Dota 2 has an all-time peak of 1,295,114 players, which itself says a lot of good free-to-play games. Keeping aside the possibility of a toxic community, of course.
Rust, the open-ended MMO was quite close to making it to the top-five list, but alas. Still, the game has more than 140k active players. We never know when a game might quickly climb the ladder (or, fall from it), hence it’s best to keep checking into SteamDB every once in a while.
