In the field of console gaming, exclusivity is a big aspect. But recently, that term was broken by the CEO of Microsoft Gaming himself. A few months ago, Phil Spencer announced that four Xbox first-party titles, including Sea of Thieves, were going to be cross-platform.

However, there were some concerns regarding the decision and whether it was the right one. And it seems it absolutely was. After coming to PlayStation, Sea of Thieves has beaten the highly anticipated PlayStation-exclusive title, Stellar Blade. And this has really pissed PlayStation fans off.

Sea of Thieves Surpasses Stellar Blade on PlayStation in Terms of Metascore

Sea of Thieves was released on March 20, 2018. The game is coming to PlayStation on April 30, with the premium edition offering five days of early access starting on April 25. This six-year-old Xbox exclusive title initially got a Metascore of just 69. But after being launched on PlayStation, the Metascore of the game on this platform has notched to a staggering 85.

On the other hand, the Metascore of the recently released action-adventure PlayStation exclusive title, Stellar Blade, is ‘only’ 82. Being an Xbox first-party title, breaking the chain, and coming to PlayStation to beat one of the most popular titles right now is a very big achievement for sure.

The reason for this overwhelming score is that Sea of Thieves actually runs better on PlayStation 5 than on Xbox. And this is not the only Xbox exclusive to do so. Another reason might be the option to turn your crossplay off on your PS5. Yes, you can have your own dedicated PlayStation-only server as well if you want

As far as standard graphics mode is concerned, both console versions deliver identical performance. But when it comes to shadows and foliage, PlayStation gets an edge. In close and long-distant scenarios, shadows reflect more sharply on Sony’s console, and also distant foliage aspects are missing on Microsoft’s console, which is present in PlayStation.

Compared to the Series X, the Xbox Series S only offers a single graphics mode with lower-quality textures and resolution.

However, if we compare both arch-rival consoles in terms of resolution, then both run at the peak resolution of 4k, i.e., 3840×2160 pixels. But when it comes to framerates, PS5 is the clear winner. Both consoles again support 60 FPS in standard mode, but it’s PS5, which is more than capable of maintaining it.

The Series X version shows major frame drops. It also suffers from 33 ms or 50 ms frame time spikes, which disrupt the gameplay experience. When it comes to high framerate mode (120 FPS), the condition of Series X is worse. PlayStation left it behind by a long margin yet again.
