The DC Cinematic Universe’s latest film, Blue Beetle certainly has a lot of hype around it, with fans extremely excited to see Jaime Reyes or the Blue Beetle himself. The story of the film follows the character of Reyes, who has recently come back home after finishing college, only to find himself in a world of trouble after discovering a scarab who chooses him to be his new host and gives him incredible powers.
With the release date of the movie getting closer and closer, the cast of the movie has been doing a large amount of press for the promotion of the movie. During one of these interviews, the director of the film dropped an interesting piece of information that has left fans incredibly excited.
The Director of Blue Beetle Talks On The Character’s Future In The Franchise
Many of the DC Cinematic Universe’s recent projects have a questionable future in the franchise, like Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash, all of which are stuck in the middle of what James Gunn and Peter Safran have planned for the first phase of DC called Gods and Monster. Due to this, many were afraid that Blue Beetle would end up with a similar fate. This, however, does not seem to be the case as the director of the film just revealed some major news.
“Best of all, the Blue Beetle story is expanding, and we are going to have more of Jaime Reyes in the future.” Soto said
The director of Blue Beetle, Angel Manuel Soto, was promoting the film at a recent press conference in Mexico City, when he talked about the future of Jaime Reyes, revealing that there have already been plans made about the future of the character and his story will be expanding in the best of ways, adding that we will be seeing a lot more of Reyes in the future.
Would Blue Beetle Be The Right Fit For DC?
With the number of questionable choices that DC has made in recent times, a question that arises is whether Blue Beetle being in the future of DCU is a good idea or not. Jaime Reyes can be responsible for building the foundation for the new Justice League.
Though Reyes is a fairly new character even in the comics, being first introduced less than twenty years ago, he can still be very important for the future of the DCU, being one of the few characters and actors who are not being removed, replaced, or rebooted. Speaking of actors, Xolo Mariduena is also an excellent choice for the role as he is a perfect fit. This character on its own also represents a lot, with a Latin American superhero playing such a crucial role in the franchise.
Blue Beetle is set to release in theaters on the 18th of August, 2023.
