Marvel’s most honest, noble, and extremely loyal superhero might have a rather hilarious weak point. Among the myriad of fan theories that have entangled with Chris Evans’ Captain America in the MCU, there is one that might leave the world crying from laughter, or even grossed out. In 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, the backstory of how MCU’s good guy, Captain America came into existence was depicted.

The plotline presented a frail Steve Rogers, rejected by the U.S. Army for his smaller proportions. Set in a post-Word War II era, in the 1940s, Rogers meets his lover, Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter. The duo works on the government-commissioned Project Rebirth, where Carter injects Rogers with the Super Soldier Serum to fight HYDRA, transforming him into Captain America. While the impressive transformation was beloved by fans, a particular theory noted that the serum had an interesting side effect.

Even though fan theories may be marked as less authentic or vague, they are put together with much evidence and effort. Rarely are the theories based on complete assumptions. Similarly, this theory on Captain America’s Super Soldier Serum’s side effect transpired from hints and implications left behind in the movies.

After getting injected with the Super Soldier Serum in The First Avenger, a scene brings in a discussion between Peggy and Steve, on the latter’s heightened metabolism. Following Bucky’s exit from the train, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers confessed to Hayley Atwell’s Peggy that he cannot seem to get drunk because of the serum.

This is when Peggy breaks it to him that his metabolism has increased to 4 times that of a normal human’s. Meaning, his diet and frequency to the bathroom will also be increased. Thus, the fan theory suggests that Captain America may also need to use the loo four times more than normal people, per ScreenRant. This is how the Super Soldier Serum imparts the gross yet hilarious twist in Captain America’s heroic character progression.

The magic potion that changed an ordinary Steve Rogers into the mighty Captain America, a household name in Marvel’s superhero team of Avengers, was made by scientist Abraham Erskine. The Super Soldier Serum was later recreated by many others, including Bruce Banner, who substituted it with gamma and vita radiation and self-tested it to become Hulk.

Regardless, Steve Rogers is the first and only recipient of Erskine’s accurate serum, which primarily enhances the physical traits of the recipient, per Marvel. This resulted in the life-span increase of Captain America, living over a century, in addition to the superhuman strength and physicality. In short, it’s a boon to the Marvel universe.
