Supergirl Might Have Been a Little Hard on Melissa Benoist
Actress Melissa Benoist spent years playing the role of Kara Zor-El in the Supergirl series. The series is about Kara Danvers, the biological cousin of Superman, unveiling her powers at the age of 24 to protect the inhabitants from an unexpected disaster.
Although Benoist dedicatedly portrayed her role as Supergirl, she openly disclosed that it was quite hard on her. Benoist told Entertainment Weekly:
“I’ll be honest, Supergirl was the hardest job I’ve ever done to this point in my career. It was so challenging and wonderful in that regard.”
The role of Kara Zor-El drained Benoist out and all she needed after it was a long break from work. She mentioned that she went to the park and was getting her ducks in a row to relax after such a challenging job over 6 long years.
Why Did Melissa Benoist Go for The Girls on the Bus After DC’s Supergirl?
After finishing the superhero series, Benoist got a call from executive producer Sarah Schechter and co-creator Julie Plec to join them for The Girls on the Bus. She told EW:
“They told me about the scope of the show and the character and what they wanted to do.”
Although skeptical at first, Benoist joined the crew of The Girls on the Bus within 48 hours of the offer. She mentioned that the reason she joined the crew of the show was because, after Supergirl, she wanted to do something that she truly loved.
Interestingly, not only did Benoist join the crew as a female actor, but also as an executive producer. Benoist proudly stated her reasons for being the executive producer of The Girls on the Bus, saying:
“Ownership is helpful in so many different regards. It’s really valuable to walk on a set and know that you’re a part of shepherding it into existence.”
The Sun Dogs actress went on to say that she is grateful to be able to create the team that would be working on the series to have the best possible outcome.
