For fans of Japanese manga and anime, Jump Festa 2024 is shaping up to be the most exciting yet. The Chainsaw Man’s announcement was one of the most significant of all the announcements. Although the plot of the manga is undoubtedly reaching an exciting point, fans are more interested in the anime series’ second season, about which there hasn’t been any information up until now.
The 40-minute Chainsaw Man stage was held at the RED Super Stage on December 17 at 3:30 p.m. JST. News for the upcoming season has finally been revealed by Chainsaw Man. The anime series Chainsaw Man is extending with a film project centered around Reze and the Bomb Girl storyline. Trailer and teaser images for the film have also been released by the creators for the fans.
However, the more exciting news during the panel was the revelation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s inspiration behind Denji and Reze’s relationship. According to Fujimoto, this relationship is inspired by another popular movie Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Inspiration Behind Denji and Reze’s Relationship
Fujimoto revealed his thoughts on the upcoming Chainsaw Man movie at Jump Festa in a special note to fans. In a letter to Chainsaw Man fans which was later shared by ComicBook, the artist revealed to them what to anticipate from Reze and Denji’s relationship. He also talked about how it was inspired by a popular anime Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. He said:
“The motif behind Denji and Reze, who are both expendable and being used by others, is based on the main characters of the animated movie Jin-Roh. I think there are a lot of imperfections in their composition, so I recommend you check out Jin-Roh as well.”
He also recommended the fans to watch Jin-Roh as it would help them understand Denji and Reze’s relationship in the upcoming movie and they could see how they are being used and manipulated by others.
Denji and Reze’s Relationship in Chainsaw Man
On their first meeting, Reze, a Russian foreigner roughly Denji’s age, manages to connect with him quite well. Before it was revealed that Reze was actually the Bomb Devil hybrid and had first gotten closer to Denji only to steal his heart, Reze and Chainsaw Man, a human around Denji’s age, had a somewhat sincere relationship.
Regretfully, Reze’s primary motivation for traveling to Japan was to kill Denji, even though it was revealed later in the series that she had genuine feelings for him. Regretfully, because they were both being used by others, Denji and Reze were not intended to be happy together.
It would surely be interesting to watch their relationship and how they interact in the upcoming movie, fans should probably watch Jin-Roh first as advised by Fujimoto as it will give them an initial understanding of Reze and Denji’s relationship in the movie.
