Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender premieres on Thursday, Feb. 22 and it’s not been regarded as a good adaptation of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted on Nickelodeon in 2005 and ran for three seasons, ending in 2008. It’s been criticized for its emotionally hollow and tonally disconnected themes. The live-action show has also been under severe criticism due to the changes in the innate traits of some characters.
And at such a time, when fans are utterly disappointed with the new Netflix adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, some fans have an alternate idea. They think, rather than making live-action adaptations of animated series, makers should stick to what they have been usually doing. To make animated versions of a live-action movie.
Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action Got Cold Response
Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action has been released, but it was not met with good words from fans the way it’s expected. The Albert Kim-created show has been in discussion among fans and critics since its debut. There is no news of a second season yet, but the creative team directed the first one with the probability of releasing a follow-up.
The show was not what fans had wished to watch. Many expressed their dismay with the entire production and even the casting. They could not help but share their disappointment on social media. Be it the terrible CGI, or talk about the lame acting, viewers seem to be convinced that it was awfully unacceptable.
The creator earlier promised that they would keep the essence of the show close to the source material, but there was a huge tonal shift and alteration. It has received so much cold response that some fans got to say that M. Night Shyamalan’s movie was way better than what Netflix just made.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a fantasy world where people can bend the four elements, but only the Avatar can master all four together. Also, the live-action series has been cut short to 8 episodes from 20 half-hour episodes which resulted in a lack of character growth arc, comedic elements, and side missions.
Fans Want Makers to Go Back to Square One
A live-action adaptation of a beloved animated series hardly got audiences’s approval. You talk about 2017’s Ghost in the Shell, Netflix’s Death Note movie, or the recent live-action Cowboy Bebop series. Still, there is an example like Alita: Battle Angel which became a favorite. But the success rate is very low. And that’s why fans came to the conclusion that it’s not a live-action adaptation of an animated series, but the reverse should happen.
No more live-action adaptations of animated stuff. Gotta go back to doing animated versions of live-action movies. Time to do Tenet: The Animated Series

The gimmick would be that there are different styles of animation for parallel universes.

What about an animation adaption of a Reality TV Show i.e. The Masked Singer?

Whether the show gets any follow-up or not, will depend on its viewership and critical comments. At present it would be way too early to verdict it, as it’s just released.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is available to watch on Netflix.
