Hollywood can be unpredictable, particularly in terms of casting decisions and how actors find out about getting their sought-after roles. This was the case for the Legion star Amber Midthunder, who landed one of the beloved roles in a memorable and alluring way. Well, her unexpected role revelation took the form of a memorable quote from the megahit movie, Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Any guesses as to which film it was? 

Yes, it was Prey the prequel to the 1987 Schwarzenegger film, Predator. Although the prequel’s cast was entirely new, it had a plot that was somewhat similar to the original. The actress even revealed in an interview that a well-known Predator quote helped her discover that she would play the lead character in Prey.

Director of Prey, Dan Trachtenberg had also outlined why the Only Mine actress was ideal for his 2022 movie as she continued to win his high praise.

For the unversed, her role in the X-Men spinoff, Legion is where the actress gained her first recognition.

How Did Amber Midthunder Get a Role In Prey?

Prey starred Amber Midthunder as Naru, a fearsome Comanche woman eager to prove her mettle in battle, who must use her abilities when a terrifying and dangerous alien threat appears. This Predator prequel film’s cast also includes Dakota Beavers, Michelle Thrush, Stormee Kipp, Julian Black Antelope, and Bennett Taylor. Dane DiLiegro plays the film’s eponymous antagonist. 

Many of the dialogue from Predator’s lines are still immensely famous, including the phrase “If it bleeds, we can kill it,” which is also repeated in its 2022 prequel film.

The 26-year-old actress claimed in an interview with The Empire Film Podcast that director Dan Trachtenberg informed her that she landed the role in Prey by quoting one of the most famous Predator lines.

“I got a call from a random number and it was Dan [Trachtenberg] and I was like, ‘Oh, this is either going to go good or bad.’ And then he was like, ‘If you had to get somewhere by air and you couldn’t go by land, sea, or legs, what would you do’? I said hang glider, and he was like, ‘No, it has an engine.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, a hot air balloon.’ And he was like, ‘No, you’re supposed to say “Get to the chopper!” Because you’re going to be Arnold.’ And I was like ‘Ugh, I failed’ but then I was like ‘Oh!’ So, not quite what he had in mind. Not, like, the dream scenario of how that would go. But that was how he told me.”

This is a known fact that the action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger, a former governor of California, is best known for his starring roles in classic films like Predator and The Terminator. Nevertheless, it appears that The Ice Road actress struggled to deliver on his famous line despite having a wealth of acting experience.

Disney Is Considering Making Prey Sequels?

Prey is the most innovative and well-received Predator film of the entire franchise, garnering overwhelming ratings from both critics and audiences. It makes sense that more additions to the franchise are now being considered after it achieved the distinction of being the most-watched Hulu platform premiere ever.

Dan Trachtenberg, the film’s director, expressed a strong desire for a sequel when speaking with Digital Spy.

“I’ve never stopped thinking about ways to make cool Predator movies from since I was a kid and throughout this whole experience, so it would be great to make more.”

Midthunder, who also stated: “I have not heard anything, but I definitely had a great time on this one,” is undoubtedly up for the ride.

While this was going on, producer John Davis also hinted to Variety that there are many options for a sequel.

“Well, maybe there’s an origin, origin story. Right? Maybe there’s another Alien vs Predator story in a different situation. And maybe there’s a new modern-day version. And maybe there’s something somewhere in between. I think this character can show up throughout history.”
