The 81st Golden Globes Award ceremony host, comedian, and actor Jo Koy is being trolled for his opening monologue at the event. Many called his speech “unfunny.” Several Hollywood A-listers were present, and Koy’s jokes were not welcomed by the majority.
Koy, who is the second Asian host in Golden Globes history, put many celebrities in awkward situations as he kicked off his monologue. Even Harrison Ford could not stop himself from showing how frustrated he was.
What Were Some of the Jokes Jo Koy Cracked?
The room was not at all responding well when the host started his opening speech at the 81st Golden Globes.
“I got the gig 10 days ago! You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up,” he said during his opening monologue. “You’re kidding me, right? Slow down. I wrote some of these, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at.”
Some jokes were directly targeted at certain Hollywood A-listers, and they totally looked irritated and unamused as the camera kept on focusing on them.
Poking at Oppenheimer, Koy joked:
“I loved Oppenheimer, it just needed another hour. … My new year’s resolution in 2024 is to finish Oppenheimer by 2025. … I love Oppenheimer, especially the first season.”
“Robert De Niro, your last performance is your greatest performance — how’d you get her pregnant at at 80?” Koy joked, targeting Robert De Niro.

As can be seen, most of his jokes fell flat. Koy is the second Asian host in Globes history following Sandra Oh hosting in 2019.
