The nominations for Golden Globes 2024 have been made public and have elicited a wide range of reactions and debate among the audience. Being an exclusive award category to identify the best of entertainment across film as well as television, the Golden Globes had a lot of expectations around them. Unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes are known for being more inclusive in terms of the content they consider.
The Golden Globes 2024 was particularly looked forward to considering the massive releases like Oppenheimer, Barbie and Killers of the Flower Moon that dominated Hollywood this year. However, many have expressed disappointment over the fact that only the outright popular and the movies with critically acclaimed makers managed to make it to the nominees. Many of the shows and films that won over the audience through just the writing and performances, have seemingly been skipped by the Globes this year.
Major misses and disappointments amidst the Golden Globes 2024 nominations
Among the shows whose absence in the nominees list was widely pointed out, is the Kevin Costner starrer Yellowstone. The show has been receiving consistently positive reviews ever since the release of the fist season in 2018. Alongside the experimental writing and the engaging making, Costner’s performance was thought to have elevated the series to make it a top contender at the Golden Globes 2024. The lack of an acknowledgement for Yellowstone‘s artistic merit did come as a surprise to the fans of the show.
Tom Hiddleston starrer Loki, is another one of the very popular shows that didn’t make it this year. Despite not being as delightful as the very first season, the second season of Loki gathered a massive viewership. In 2022, the show was the most viewed Marvel Studios Disney Plus series, and considering the volume of content that Marvel has been churning out on Disney Plus, that is saying something. Nevertheless, neither the performances, nor the behind-the-camera crafts were recognised through the nominations for Golden Globes 2024, causing another disappointment for the fans.
The Starz show, Outlander was one of the most acclaimed shows of the year and boasted highly positive reviews but was missed out in the nominations. Reservation Dogs and Poker Face are other shows that very completely overlooked in this year’s nominations.
While Loki and Yellowstone are among the more popular shows that didn’t find a place among the nominees, there are other critically acclaimed shows that earned some fantastic reviews and still went unnoticed by the awards. Among the films, Ferrari, starring Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz and Patrick Dempsey, is one of the big misses for the Golden Globes 2024.
HBO’s Succession, with its final season, stands at the top, just as last year, with nine nominations. Succession is closely followed by the Hulu show, Only Murders in the Building and the FX series, The Bear. The Bear, starring Jeremy Allen White, came as a pleasant surprise this year with barely any anticipation but massive post-release acclaim and appreciation. This makes the news of its nomination at the Golden Globes 2024 almost obvious.

The Golden Globes 2024 will be hosted by and aired on CBS on January 7, 2024, as announced by the channel in November 2023.
