Jennifer Lopez’s latest project, a deeply personal endeavor delving into her quest for love, faced unexpected challenges to share her quest for love in the upcoming film This is Me…Now: A Love Story. So she took the bold step to finance the project herself.
She recalled calling her longtime partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas in the middle of the night to invest $20 million of her own money in the project, despite skepticism from some close associates. The actress also shared during her interview with Variety that skepticism also prevailed among the Hollywood celebrities she reached out to star in the movie.
She shared that while some accepted her offer, others rejected it, one of them being The Kardashians star Khloe Kardashian. Reflecting on her rejection, Lopez shared, “People are scared to put themselves out there.”
Although she acknowledged her own fears and admitted that it took her a long time to adjust to this lifestyle, Lopez also shared that she chooses not to show it, saying, ” I’m scared. But I don’t act like I’m scared — that’s the secret to my whole fucking career.”
If the socialite had accepted the role, it would have marked her first acting gig in nearly a decade, although all her previous roles involved portraying herself. The Kardashians star has not said anything about the offer or the potential role in Jennifer Lopez’s film yet.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Lopez, and her producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas opened up about the challenges they faced while financing the upcoming film This is Me…Now: A Love Story. However, despite setbacks and financial constraints, Lopez remained determined to bring her vision to life.
The singer-actress revealed that the film faced financial hurdles early on, leading to budget overruns and unexpected complications. “We did have financing, and then that fell out. They pulled out at the last minute,” she shared during the interview.
She further shared, “We talked about whether or not I do this or I just go make two videos and go the normal route.” Many doubted the feasibility of the project, with some even questioning Lopez’s decision to pursue it without the backing of a major studio.
In a bold move, Lopez decided to self-finance her upcoming film, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to realizing the vision she had in mind. As per Variety, Amazon bought the film for an undisclosed amount after it was completed.
This is Me…Now: A Love Story is set to premiere on Prime Video on February 16, 2024.
