In recent times, it seems as though the charm that was once possessed by big-budget superhero films has now trickled down to exceptional adaptations from filmmakers other than comic books, and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune series is a shining example of that phenomenon. With Timothée Chalamet playing the role of the main protagonist since the first film, the hype for the sequel has been more than buzzing with excitement.

As the release of the film comes ever closer, it seems like the actor could not keep himself from giving away more information to the public than was necessary. In a recent interview, Chalamet unforgivingly gave away the secret that Jason Momoa’s character Duncan Idaho from the first film will return despite the character’s demise, but in the sequel of the upcoming Dune: Part Two and not in it.

By far one of the hottest topics of conversation at the moment is none other than filmmaker Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two. Naturally, there are a lot of inferences that the connoisseurs of the original literary series that the films are being adapted from are making in terms of the development and progression of the story, some of which lead star Timothée Chalamet has already revealed to the public ahead of the second movie’s release.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz (via MTV), the Wonka star was quick to reveal that Duncan Idaho, who died in the first film and was played by actor Jason Momoa, will return to the series but not in the upcoming film, but in the third film of the series, titled Dune: Messiah.

Chalamet stated that since the novels have already been out for the better part of the last century, the events of the upcoming adapted films should not come as a surprise to most. He said:

Momoa will be back, not in this one, but in [Messiah]…It’s weird because they’re so secretive about the script and the trailer, but [the books] have been out there for 70 years.”

In conjunction with that information, the readers of the original literary series might also remember that Idaho returns to the narrative basically as a zombie, which is something to keep in mind when imagining his comeback to the franchise in the future.

Part of the charm that took Dune to the next level was the exceptional use of visual effects and CGI in tandem with some of the most barren yet beautifully imagined landscapes seen in cinema.

These stunning visuals were coupled with an almost one-to-one recreation and retention of the essence of the original literary series by author Frank Herbert, which is often considered one of the best literary works in history. Thus, the excellent portrayal of characters by the stars and execution of the story by the filmmaker culminated in a masterpiece the audience came to love and enjoy.

Dune: Part Two, in cinemas on March 1st, 2024.
