Now that the times of the gross mismanagements inside Warner Bros. Discovery have finally been left behind as bad memories, the new and rejuvenated DC Films’ future now relies on the vision that CEOs Peter Safran and James Gunn had for the rebooted DCU that will bring back all the superheroes and supervillains from the pages of DC Comics in a new and unique light.

And taking the first steps towards that vision, the first film of the new franchise has already been released. And with the release of the much-awaited Blue Beetle, the expectations of the fans seem to be fulfilled, but just barely. However, this film also happens to be the one that saved Gunn’s face as he was heading to break an embarrassing record.

While many were thinking what will be Warner Bros. Discovery’s next move to stabilize its crumbling management and the DCEU as a whole, CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran took the bold move to dismantle the entire franchise and return to square one. This meant the creation of the DCU, a cinematic universe that was the creative expression of the new management. Finally, the vision came to reality with the release of DCU’s first film, which is actor Xolo Maridueña‘s debut in and as Blue Beetle.

During the initial days when the film had just hit the cinemas, the performance at the box office was grim, to say the least. In the first weekend, the film grossed a meager $25 Million domestically, which set its course towards becoming the lowest-grossing DCEU film ever, which is none other than Shazam: Fury of The Gods. But now, as new box office numbers come in, we are reported that the film has outgrossed the Zachary Levi film on the domestic front, and is well on its way to beating it on the international stage as well.

Fans have taken notice of this, and many believe that while the film is a breath of fresh air and a good start for the Peacemaker director’s new vision, the negative press that Ezra Miller‘s The Flash received, mixed with lackluster marketing and promotion strategy is what led to the film grossing so low in the first place. And considering there is still time for it in the cinemas, it can very well surpass the lowest-grossing DCEU film of all time.

As the film keeps going strong in cinemas, it will be interesting to see where the film’s success will finally land at the end.
