Macaulay and Kieran Culkin are two brothers who found fame in Hollywood in early childhood. Macaulay, more so, with his stint in the Home Alone movies that shot him to fame, whereas Kieran had a slower trajectory. But the fame that came their way, especially older brother Macaulay Culkin, was not without a price. Their whole childhood was gone, with Macaulay being harassed by media outlets from the very beginning of his career.

Kieran Culkin was quite upset with how his brother had to face the media from such a young age. And because of him, the rest of his six siblings, including Kieran, did not have a pleasant childhood either. Add to that their family issues and their parents’ highly-publicized divorce, and things weren’t easy. But Kieran Culkin believes that while the media was harsh on them, especially his brother- there were some outlets that simply crossed the limit.

Kieran Culkin Refuses to Talk to Certain Media Outlets

After the divorce of their parents – Kit Culkin and Patricia Brentrup – the media frenzy was through the roof because of custody battles. A 13-year-old Kieran Culkin actually wrote to a judge, asking for protection from the media at such a trying time for their family. But some outlets took it too far.

Speaking to Esquire, Kieran Culkin revealed how he refused to speak to Access Hollywood after they did a piece on their family in 1977. Similarly, he also refused to speak to The New York Post, which he said was terrible to his brother and their family.

“The newspaper doesn’t always give you the facts,” he said. “Let me rephrase that. The New York Post doesn’t always give you the fucking facts.”

Unfortunately, when you are walking a red carpet, or doing a press tour, it’s not always easy to spot different outlets.

“They don’t always tell you who you’re talking to until after you’ve talked to them. ‘Who is that by the way?’ They’re like, ‘Access Hollywood.’ ‘Fuck! Just broke my own fucking rule.’”

Well, whether he wants it or not, as Kieran Culkin said, it is quite difficult to keep to your own promise in the land of Hollywood.

How Well Do Kieran Culking and Macaulay Culkin Get Along?

Macaulay Culkin was much more famous than his younger brother in their childhood days. Though Kieran had small roles in Home Alone and Home Alone 2, it was Macaulay who was the star of the show. But given how Macaulay’s whole childhood was spent trying to escape the media, Kieran thinks the situation was rough on his older brother.

Further speaking to Esquire, the Succession star, who swept the 2024 award season for his role as Roman Roy, said,

“He was little and having to try to accept that level of fame as reality. Even at that time, as a kid, I remember thinking, That sucks for him.”

The brothers though, share an amiable relationship, even if they cannot see each other as much as they would like. Both of them have spoken about each other to media outlets positively, and we hope their relationship only gets better in the future.
