While One Piece will be keeping Iñaki Godoy busy for probably the next decade, that didn’t stop DC fandom from fan-casting him into another perfect role. Godoy could easily play Beast Boy, one of the founding members of the Teen Titans. While many fans could connect the actor’s persona with One Piece‘s Luffy, the charming actor could also convince his audience as a shape-changing teen titan. However, one major problem could prevent this fan-casting from becoming a reality.
If Beast Boy were to become a part of James Gunn’s new DCU, the character may not have a major arc in the universe. However, Iñaki Godoy is already a star playing Luffy, and any downgrade from that will be a gross injustice to his star power.
Fans Cast One Piece‘s Iñaki Godoy As Beast Boy In James Gunn’s DCU
Iñaki Godoy is most famous for playing the titular character in Netflix’s adaptation of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy. Besides playing the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, Godoy also appeared in other projects like The Imperfects and Who Killed Sara? Now, fans have envisioned him in another role, that of DC’s Beast Boy, which would perfectly fit him in terms of appearance and characterization.
Fans on X seemed to love this idea as they called for starting a campaign to cast Godoy in the role. One fan shared that it was one of the best fan castings they had ever seen for the character, while another mentioned that they could not see any other actor in the role anymore. The overwhelming response showed that Iñaki Godoy could definitely play the role to perfection.
However, there remains one major problem in this casting becoming an actual reality. James Gunn has yet to announce a project with Teen Titans in it, but it is highly unlikely that the characters will get a solo project in the universe. This will potentially make Beast Boy, at the very least, a minor character in a movie or series. Coming from the One Piece fame, Godoy would think twice before taking on the role in the DC project. Moreover, the next decade of Godoy’s youth will probably be spent on the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda‘s anime. The Netflix series will have to spawn several more seasons to complete the story of its original anime. Fans also point out in Reddit and other discussion forums that the actor could also play Kid Devil in DC and form a friendship with Blue Beetle. Interestingly, Iñaki Godoy and Xolo Maridueña are friends off-screen.
Who Is Beast Boy, The Character That DC Fans Want Iñaki Godoy To Play?
According to DC Comics, the real name of the character is Garfield Logan, who was born to geneticists Mark and Marie Logan. When the couple was researching a rare species of green monkeys, one of them bit Garfield, contracting a serious illness called Sakutia. The Logans cure him with a serum, but it gives him shape-changing abilities.
As a side effect of the serum, he turns green. Beast Boy’s parents later die in an accident, and he becomes interested in the superhero team called the Doom Patrol. After working with the team for quite some time, Beast Boy felt alienated and struck out on his own. He encounters Robin, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg and helps them in a mission to liberate Starfire from her Gordanian captors. The team later formed the Teen Titans, with these five as its founding members.
