Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece is literally one of the best ever created. A major reason behind this is that the cast of the superhit series actually understand each other as much in real life as much as they do onscreen. Like, for one, the relationship Emily Rudd and Iñaki Godoy share onscreen and offscreen is indeed incredible.
That being said, Rudd thinks of herself as the Monkey D. Luffy actor’s guardian in the critically acclaimed live-action show, for reasons one too many, as she revealed herself. But that isn’t the only thing admirable about them: the relationship the duo share in real life is somewhat similar and equally adorable, if not more!
Emily Rudd Considers Herself Iñaki Godoy’s Guardian: Both Onscreen and Offscreen!
Both onscreen in the series and offscreen in real life, “Luffy is the captain, but Nami is the boss.” One crew member said this during an interview with GamesRadar+, with Rudd agreeing afterward with an, “Oh, totally!”
With her being the boss and holding all authority over important matters, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to claim that Emily Rudd‘s Nami thinks of herself as a guardian of not only Monkey D. Luffy but the rest of the crew as well. As she said in the interview:
“The way that she’s the only one that controls the money, and they’re like, ‘Nami, can I please have some allowance?’ And she’s like, ‘You get 20 Berry, enjoy,’ like, that’s it. I love it. Of course, she is. Of course, she’s, like, mothering these people. They’re just crazy, silly boys.”
But while “mothering” all the boys is one thing, Rudd is especially super attached and protective of Luffy’s portrayer Godoy in real life as well. During a brief chat with Decider, she echoed similar thoughts while saying:
“We all kind of spent time with each other equally, but I spent a lot of time with Iñaki [Godoy] and we definitely developed this older-sister-younger-brother dynamic. He’s 19 and I am not, so I felt a little protective of him. But, also he’s so energetic, so playful — it’s infectious. We created silly little bits that we just milked to death.”
There you have it, one of the biggest reasons why the Iñaki Godoy-starrer live-action adaptation is so wildly popular: The playfulness and bond seen between the characters onscreen is actually real, which makes the series all the better than anything and everything before it!
Emily Rudd Discloses Who She Thinks is the Strongest Straw Hat in One Piece
During the same interview with GamesRadar+, Rudd also shared her thoughts on who she thinks is the strongest Straw Hat in One Piece. And while her character may have been predictable for some, it would most certainly come as a surprise to many, as Rudd said:
“If I have to talk about our crew, I’m going to say Nami, because she’s the boss, like we said. Who controls the money? Who navigates the ship? You can’t get anywhere without her and you can’t buy anything without her, like, you’re stuck, I’m sorry. You cannot get anything done without that woman, I’m sorry.”
Well, now that she mentions it, it’s only true that Nami is indeed one of the most necessary as well as most powerful members of the Straw Hat crew even without her possessing as much physical strength as others!
One Piece live-action series can be streamed on Netflix.
