Jackie Chan, who made a name for himself with his unique blend of comedy and action, also learned a specific skill while starring in the 2017 action thriller The Foreigner. Based on a 1992 novel, The Chinaman, the film follows Ngoc Minh Quan, who starts hunting down the terrorist responsible for an attack that claimed the life of his daughter.

Chan played the lead role in the movie, and his character also worked on some homemade bombs in the film. And during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Police Story actor revealed how he learned to make bombs for The Foreigner.

Did Jackie Chan Learn Bomb Making For The Foreigner?

The 2017 action thriller The Foreigner was received pretty well by critics and grossed over $145 million with a budget of $35 million. Jackie Chan starred alongside Pierce Brosnan in the film, and he was very happy to share the screen with the Hollywood star. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he was asked if he needed assistance assembling the bombs Ngoc Minh Quan made in the film.

He said, “Yes, on set, there was an expert who taught me.” However, he still did not learn specifically how to make a homemade bomb. He shared that the bombs he learned to make for the film were just for appearance and he didn’t know how to make homemade bombs.

“I don’t know how to build them, that’s way too hard. It’s just for appearances,” he shared. It was also Chan’s first time working with the James Bond star and he also shared his experience working with him in Martin Campbell’s 2017 film.

Jackie Chan on Working With Pierce Brosnan

Jackie Chan starred alongside Pierce Brosnan, who plays a politician Liam Hennessy in the 2017 film. Talking about his experience working with the Die Another Day star, he shared that the 70-year-old actor helped him rehearse his lines and had a great experience sharing the screen with him.

The Rush Hour star called Brosnan “excellent” and “focused” as he shared the time the Golden Eye star woke up at 6 in the morning to help him. He shared that after they were done with the rehearsal, he asked Brosnan, “Okay, now you’re off to hair and makeup?”

However, Brosnan told him that he was going back to sleep. Chan was touched and shared that he became very emotional. “What?! You came here just to help me rehearse?! Wow!” he shared during the interview. He appreciated his co-star’s efforts in helping him and said that the people involved in the film were very professional.
