Scheduled for release in 2024, the live-action adaptation of Snow White has already generated its fair share of controversy due to certain unveiled details of the project.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the son of the director expressed his absolute disapproval of the “woke” changes that the remake embodies. He firmly asserted that his father, the late director, would staunchly disapprove of this divergent direction, noting,

“I mean, it’s a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it.”

Referring to the remake as a “disgrace” for straying so far from the elements that rendered the original movie a success, he further complained,

“There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did… I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.”

He also expressed concerns about Disney’s increasingly extreme approach, altering established narratives and characters, effectively cutting the essence of the original stories.

As discussions surrounding this remake rage on, it’s abundantly clear that it has sparked a fresh chapter in the ongoing discourse about modernizing beloved classics for today’s audience.

However, this controversy is far from over, especially considering Rachel Zegler’s previous comments about the upcoming Snow White storyline, which have already sparked significant backlash.

On social media, Zegler faced criticism for remarks made during her promotion of the film before the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The actress candidly revealed her initial disapproval of the original movie after watching it once, finding its storyline “weird” due to the prince’s perceived stalking behavior. She stated,

“We have a different approach to what I’m sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because we cast a guy in the movie. It’s really not about the love story at all, which is really, really wonderful.”

These comments have further fueled the ongoing conversation about the remake, which had already garnered criticism for its departure from the original storyline.
