Ryan Gosling Dives into Thrilling Action Sequences in The Fall Guy
Actor Ryan Gosling opened up about his daring stunts in the film at the SXSW premiere of The Fall Guy. Playing the role of a stuntman in the movie, he was adamant about doing some of the action sequences on his own to get a closer look at the profession himself.
In a conversation with People, The Gray Man star highlighted his commitment to the role and his desire to immerse himself in the action, as he shared that he “did a few more” stunts. He also shared that it was “important,” as it provided him with a deeper understanding of the challenges stunt performers face daily.
However, one of the most challenging stunts for him was when he was being dropped 12 stories off from a towering building. “They dropped me 12 stories off of a building,” he said before adding, “And I have a fear of heights.”
Based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, The Fall Guy follows Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers. Despite utilizing CGI for some of the sequences, the filmmakers have claimed to prioritize practical effects and stunts, highlighting that some of these haven’t been seen in over a decade.
Producer Promises Adrenaline-Pumping Action in The Fall Guy
In an interview with Empire, The Fall Guy producer Kelly McCormick shared the details about the stunt and action sequences used in the movie. She claimed that the upcoming film would feature some of the stunts that haven’t been attempted in over a decade.
“It was a really special set. We were doing these huge stunts, like a huge 150-foot fall, which hadn’t happened in about ten years. We did a 250-foot jump over a giant crevasse – I’m not even sure how we achieved that, to be honest!”
She also pointed out a cannon roll on a beach, stating that such a sequence has not been done since the 2006 action movie Casino Royale. McCormick also highlighted that the upcoming film gave the stuntmen “opportunities they hadn’t had in a long time,” due to the prevalent use of CGI and visual effects.
Filmmaker David Leitch, who started his career as a stuntman in Hollywood and has worked in movies like Fight Club, The Matrix franchise, and The Bourne Ultimatum, has also emphasized having practical stunts in the film to honor the stunt performers.
The Fall Guy is set to release on March 12, 2024.
