Per Variety, Edward Zwick, the director and co-writer of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back has opened up about his reaction to the movie. The movie was a box-office failure and Zwick has taken the blame on himself and his accomplice Don Granger. Further, he expressed that he is open to creating a third movie should Tom Cruise agree to return as Jack Reacher.

“I blame myself (and my willing accomplice, Don Granger) for thinking the audience might enjoy a mash-up of Jack Reacher and Paper Moon, when in fact they just wanted more red meat. I had a wonderful time working with Cobie Smulders, and I certainly don’t blame Tom for not being six two — as the novelist Lee Child described his protagonist — and should Tom happen to call about making a third movie together, I’ll definitely pick up.” – Edward Zwick in his memoir Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood.

Whether or not the duo will actually return to the silver screen is a question only time can answer.

Tom Cruise is also rumored to create a sequel to 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow

Jack Reacher is not the only movie Tom Cruise is rumored to revisit. In fact, there are even better chances of Cruise starring in a sequel to his 2014 sci-fi drama, Edge of Tomorrow. In an interview with Variety, even co-star Emily Blunt expressed her desire to work in a potential sequel.

“Doug and I talk all the time about it. I know Tom wants to do it, hopefully, at some point. But it’s timing, but it’s also been ten years since we made it … There was an amazing script in the works, but I think it would only have worked if we shot it eight years ago. I’m not saying we’re that ancient, but you have to factor in it’s been ten years.” – Emily Blunt with Variety

Fans can’t wait to learn which of his old classics would Tom Cruise revisit first. Will it be Edge of Tomorrow, Jack Reacher, Top Gun, or maybe something else? Both parts of Jack Reacher are streaming on Paramount+ and Edge of Tomorrow can be streamed on Hulu.
