John Stamos has recently shared about firing Elizabeth Olsen’s twin sisters, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen in Full House. The renowned twin sisters debuted as infants playing Michelle Tanner on the sitcom which went on from 1987 to 1995. The show revolves around Bob Saget’s Danny Tanner who enlists his brother-in-law, Jesse Katsopolis (Stamos), and best friend, Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier) to help raise his three daughters.
Olsen twins played the role of the youngest daughter starting at the age of just 11 months old. However, they initially seemed to have gotten in the bad books of the former who revealed that he wanted them booted from the sitcom.
John Stamos Wanted to Fire Elizabeth Olsen’s Twin Sisters from Full House
In his memoir, If You Would Have Told Me via Variety, John Stamos unraveled several chapters of his personal and professional life. At the same, he talked about how he wanted to fire then-11-month-old Elizabeth Olsen‘s renowned twin sisters, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen from their sitcom, Full House.
He recalled a conversation when he openly expressed his views to the show’s creator, Jeff Franklin about working with the twins.
“It’s either me or them. They’re not going to work out. They’ll ruin this show and my career.”
With continued disapproval regarding working with his young castmates, he wrote that new twins eventually replaced the duo which he described were “quiet, calm, and homely as hell.” However, this replacement was quite temporary as he asked them to bring back the Olsen girls not much later after getting them booted from the show. However, this is not the first time he talked about firing his young castmates as he went into further detail about why he wanted them booted in the first place.
Why Was John Stamos Hellbent on Initially Firing Olsen Twins?
In April this year, Stamos spilled the beans on facing difficulty in working alongside the infants in the show. He shared on the Good Guys podcast via Insider that their persistent crying made things difficult for him.
Referring to the first episode where he and Coulier were changing the kid’s diaper in the kitchen, filming it was quite difficult as the twins were both crying.
“So, we’re carrying the baby downstairs and we take her in the kitchen, and we hose her down. And she was screaming. Both of them. They wanted to be anywhere else but there, and so did I.”
He was quite frustrated over their crying but the producer kept on switching the baby assuring him that they wouldn’t cry but it was futile.
He shared,
“They were 11 months old, and god bless them. They kept switching: ‘This one’s not gonna cry.’ I couldn’t deal with it. And I said, ‘This is not gonna work.’ And so they got rid of them.”
While another redheaded twins managed to replace them for a “few days,” the ER actor brought the Olsen twins back. He ended up loving the twins as he revealed in his memoir that the duo nailed specific scenes.
“Mary-Kate is stronger in the emotional scenes, Ashley scores in the comedic ones.”
He even wrote about the MCU actress sharing that she once visited the set and quickly became his new favorite Olsen among the trio. Eventually, the Olsen twins starred in all eight seasons alongside the 60-year-old actor on the hit sitcom which went on to become their breakthrough role.
