As the year 2023 comes to a close, several magazines and websites are giving their roundabouts of the movies released this year. Scarlett Johansson’s Asteroid City somehow made it to the list of one of the worst movies of 2023!
Taking to X, people called out Variety for creating the list, including Asteroid City alongside other failures. Stating that the movie was good enough to not be a part of the list, fans complained that the comparison was just plain disrespectful.
Scarlett Johansson’s Asteroid City Gets Disrespected!
With the list created by Variety, the magazine talked about the worst movies of the year 2023. The list contains several movies that were quite spectacular failures like Heart of Stone, Your Place or Mine, and several others.

What piqued the interest of the fans, though, was that the 2023 film Asteroid City was also included in the list! The Scarlett Johansson starrer movie dealt with the events of a desert town about to be changed by several events. Although the story was quite interesting, the movie wasn’t that famous. Variety decided to add it to the list of worst movies of 2023 for some reason, and fans are astonished.

Asteroid City received a rating of 6.6/10 on IMDB and an average of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, so overall… not that bad. And yet, for some reason, the film ended up on Variety’s Worst Movies of 2023 list.
Scarlett Johansson Has Faced Her Fair Share of Rejections
Before attaining the status of the veteran actor that she is today, Johansson had to struggle just like everybody else. Talking about her life before fame, the actress revealed to Parade that ever since childhood, she has faced a lot of rejections.
“Since a very young age, I’ve been rejected constantly. When people starting out ask me for advice, I always say to stay open-minded, because you never know.”
She further continued,
“I’ve never felt that I had both feet out, you know? I never imagined having another career, but there were definitely times when I felt like I should try something else in the industry.”
With the recent alleged failure of Asteroid City, it seems that Scarlett Johansson might have to add one more failed movie to her career. With Wes Anderson at the helm as director and Scarlett Johansson in the lead role, the 2023 film is available to stream on Prime Video in the U.S.
