In addition to being the co-owners of Wrexham A.F.C., Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have become great friends. Their great camaraderie and banter are seen in Welcome to Wrexham and on social media where they frequently poke fun at one another. April 14, was McElhanney’s 47th birthday and interestingly was the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
Reynolds masterfully meshed those two and put together a unique Instagram video wishing his partner on his birthday. In the video, Reynolds describes how he wants to gift McElhenney a Wrexham Lager, a beer brand that was actually on board the Titanic on the day it sank. Instead, Reynolds found a hand-drawn portrait of a shirtless McElhenney, a spoof on the famous Rose sketch from 1997’s Titanic film.
Reynolds also managed to name-drop his football club as he tells fans not to buy any merchandise generated via this sketch. Fans were blown away by Reynolds’ hilarious celebratory video as one fan wrote “This is fkin hilarious. Happy birthday @robmcelhenney”. Another fan claimed it was the perfect birthday wish, writing “Hahahaha!!!! OMG, sooooo perfect!”. Reynolds’ charm has clearly worked on audiences yet again.
The video is the perfect showcase for Reynolds’ cheeky Deadpool persona coming alive. He has a knack for bringing in brilliant ideas and references and putting them in hilarious situations such as this one. Back to The Future star Michael J. Fox was featured in Time’s list of the 100 most influential people of 2024. Ryan Reynolds wrote a heartwarming tribute to Fox and the impact he has had on his life growing up. In an Instagram post, Reynolds stated that Fox has meant a lot to his life and pointed out the great feeling of introducing Back to The Future to his daughter.
Reynolds revealed that the film has become his daughter’s favorite film. He is incredibly happy with this as he has one more individual from another generation who had a similar feeling as him when he saw the film back in the day. He wrote,
“I wrote this short blurb about Michael J Fox (@realmikejfox) for the annual #Time100. This man means a lot to me. And I know he means a lot to many of you…Last year I watched Back to the Future with my 8-year-old daughter. It’s become her favorite film. And for now, that’s enough for me—and her. One more kid from one more generation sees what I saw.”
Reynolds is gearing up for the release of Deadpool & Wolverine with the actor returning as the fan-favorite Merc with a Mouth. Hugh Jackman also returns as Wolverine along with Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen.
