James Gunn’s DCU is finally starting to take shape as he announced his progress surrounding the Superman reboot. Further, he also announced several shows that are to make their way into the first chapter of the universe. According to reports, Peacemaker would be carried over from the DCEU into the DCU, while a planned TV series Waller, focusing on Amanda Waller’s work is also set to hit the screen.
While previous reports about the upcoming TV shows excited fans, recent updates from James Gunn seemed a bit disheartening. Taking to Instagram threads, Gunn noted how he and his team are packed with projects, and have a lot to work on. Additionally, he informed fans, how the anticipated show Waller, which can potentially lead to Suicide Squad 2, has been delayed by the strikes.
James Gunn’s Disheartening Updates About Waller
Taking control of DC Studios, James Gunn appears to be fixing the prevailing issues with the franchise, for good. Dissecting phases and chapters in the DC, Gunn announced a slew of things slated to appear in the first chapter of the universe. While Marvel is changing its strategy and focusing more on movies than series, Gunn appears to be doing quite the opposite with DC.
Announcing his Superman reboot which is set to release as the first film in the new and improved universe, James Gunn revealed a few shows like Peacemaker and Waller that are set to take place in the first chapter of the universe. While John Cena’s Peacemaker will be carried over from the DCEU into the DCU, Waller is set to be a brand new planned TV show.
Focusing on the works of Amanda Waller and the creation of Task Force X, aka the Suicide Squad, the upcoming show Waller is set to be a planned TV series in DCU. But surprisingly, while James Gunn previously excited his fans by sharing updates about the show, he recently disappointed fans with his Threads post. Sharing information on how the show has been delayed due to the strikes, Gunn stated that Waller would come after Peacemaker.
Discussing briefly how the show’s production schedule has been impacted by the Hollywood strikes, James Gunn shared the disheartening update with fans. Claiming that Waller is still going to happen since writers Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver are toiling at the writers’ department, Gunn disclosed that the show will simply be delayed.
Waller Can Set Connections with Suicide Squad 2
Fans have been excited about the upcoming DC show about Amanda Waller for a long time. Especially considering the fan theories that have been spreading through the internet about how the show can set a connection with Suicide Squad 2, netizens have been all the more curious about Waller. However, James Gunn’s update came as a disheartening blow for the excited fans.
According to fan theories, Black Adam featured a maximum-security prison, a Task Force X black site in Antarctica, which wasn’t enough to contain Black Adam and other metahumans that are considered dangerous. Now, since it is related to Task Force X, and is probably under Amanda Waller, fans believe it could be carried over to the DCU, in the upcoming show Waller.
This would mean that Amanda Waller could pick and choose the strongest villains in the DC Universe to create her new and improved Suicide Squad. While this theory seems like a great plan, it also suggests that characters from its previous iteration, like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, won’t feature in the potential Suicide Squad 2.
Given that Margot Robbie previously told Variety that she wants other actresses to get the opportunity to play Harley Quinn, replacing Robbie doesn’t seem difficult. But since she has been the ultimate face of the character, it would indeed be difficult for fans to accept other actresses in the same role. However, since it’s a mere fan theory and nothing has been confirmed officially, it’s all just reports.
