This aspect of her art that has defined her personality, took a different shade in an article in the New York Times which indicated that the Blank Space singer who identified with many of the queer values, was gay in reality. The article quoted in one segment,

“In isolation, a single dropped hairpin is perhaps meaningless or accidental, but considered together, they’re the unfurling of a ballerina bun after a long performance. Those dropped hairpins began to appear in Ms. Swift’s artistry long before queer identity was undeniably marketable to mainstream America. They suggest to queer people that she is one of us.”

Following this, a source close to Taylor Swift called up various aspects of the article to state that the singer and her team found the discussion about her s*xuality on a public forum to be intrusive and inappropriate.

While Swift has openly spoken up for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community on various occasions, the general opinion after the New York Times article was that it had taken her show of support out of context.
