Kirsten Dunst is all set to star in Alex Garland’s upcoming epic war film Civil War. The film is set in a fictional near future when the USA has broken out into another Civil War over the intense political polarization that has gripped the country in the past few years. Dunst plays the role of a journalist who gets embroiled in the War.
The first trailer for the film was released recently and viewers were quick to notice a new map of the USA in a blink-and-miss shot. The map shows a fractured USA, where many States have seceded and formed alliances to fight the Civil War. However, the audiences are trolling the map, saying that the alliances the film specifies would never happen in real life.

What Is The Kirsten Dunst-Starrer Civil War About?
Though Kirsten Dunst started her career with huge films such as Interview with a Vampire and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, she has ventured into the dramatic territory and has worked with alternative voices such as Lars Von Trier, Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion, and Cameron Crowe.
Dunt was last seen in the Oscar-nominated film The Power of the Dog, a neo-Western which also starred Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemons. Dunst was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar as well as a Critic’s Choice Award and a Golden Globe for the same category. She will be returning to the big screen after three years in Alex Garland’s Civil War.
Kirsten Dunst plays a reporter in Garland’s semi-dystopian epic war film Civil War. The film is set in an undisclosed near future where many states in America have seceded from the nation and are at War with each other. Many states have formed alliances with each other to fight the war. Garland mentioned that the film would be a companion piece to his previous Men.
In an interview with The Telegraph, he said,
“[It is a] companion piece to Men in some ways. It is set at an indeterminate point in the future – just far enough ahead for me to add a conceit and serves as a sci-fi allegory for our currently polarised predicament.”
The film is produced by the production house A24, continuing its association with Garland after Ex Machina and Men. It is set to release on April 26, 2024.

Viewers Trolled The Butchered USA Map Shown In Civil War
The trailer for the Kirsten Dunst starrer Civil War was recently released and one particular shot in the film has gone viral on the Internet. The shot in question shows a reflection of the new map of the USA, where many of the states have seceded from the country and have formed alliances to fight the war.
The map is divided into five divisions: Western Forces, the Republic of California, the Second Republic of Texas, the Loyalist States, and the Florida Alliance. In the trailer, the shot is just shown in a short glimpse as a reflection but Redditors were quick to recreate the map and post it on X, which has since sparked massive debate and trolling.
Most viewers are trolling the map for indicating that Texas and California could ever be a part of the same alliance as they belong to opposing sides of the political spectrum. Many are also pointing out the states that are part of the so-called ‘Loyalist States’ stating that those states would never be considered to be that in real life.
So this movie has no idea how America works huh pic.twitter.com/SdumCBdFfH

This is bothering so much – I mean, South Carolina alone – and I think part of it is that this guy puts too much stock in state lines.

New Hampshire is loyalist?! Please. New Hampshire would be fighting a 4 front war in all directions.

This doesn’t need to be a mirror of today in order to tell a story!

Hopefully this’ll give them liberty to tell an interesting story, and not just get lost in world-building details.
No clue if this movie will be good, but I’m already exhausted by all of the takes like this.
This is obviously on purpose to me.

I’m pretty sure if they chopped it up into something that makes sense they’d be accused of warmongering.
A single shot in the film has started many conversations around the concept of Civil War itself and how close to reality the aspect of political polarization the film talks about is in the country. The film is sure to answer the questions and doubts raised by the Internet.
