Beau DeMayo’s Marvel animated series, X-Men ’97, has been a phenomenal entry as far as Marvel Cinematic Universe is concerned. A continuation of the original X-Men: The Animated Series, the show not only carries on the nostalgic theme and old aesthetic but it has one of the best storylines and character arcs that Marvel fans have ever witnessed.
From Scott Summers getting the spotlight he deserves to the X-Men finally being shown as the family they are, there are several things fans can pinpoint that the series got right. Another one of these is Cable, and X-Men ’97 treats him way better than Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 2 ever did.
Cable Looks Way Cooler in X-Men ’97 Than He Did in Deadpool 2
Known as Nathan Summers, Cable made his screen debut in X-Men: The Animated Series and then in live action in Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool 2. A mutant with exemplary telepathic and telekinetic abilities, Cable was portrayed by Josh Brolin during his live-action debut.
Being the son of Scott Summers/ Cyclops and Madeline Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey, the character was born with an exemplary set of powers. However, after being kidnapped by Mister Sinister and contracting a techno-organic virus, his powers have a limitation.
Yet, that was no excuse for Deadpool 2 to never showcase his powers. While Brolin did an amazing job of portraying the time-traveling mutant, the movie did not show him using his telekinetic abilities, which was, needless to say, a disappointment for several fans.

X-Men ’97, on the other hand, does not hold back when it comes to Cable. In episode 9 of the series, Cable is overpowered by Mister Sinister, who then takes his mind under control and uses him to overpower Jean Grey. While Grey apparently dies, the series shows the real strength of Cable’s incredible powers and how strong he really is to destroy a mutant as powerful as Jean Grey.
Fans Love X-Men ’97’s Version of Cable
Ever since the X-Men made their way to Marvel Studios, fans have been eagerly waiting to see how the studio with deal with them. While there was a certain apprehension and fear given Marvel’s recent disappointments, X-Men ’97, suffice to say. is one of the best Marvel series ever to be created.
With mutants like Cable getting the attention they have always deserved, fans have been loving the series’ version of the character more than Josh Brolin’s Cable from Deadpool 2.
This was my dream with Cable, seeing him using his mutant abilities! People don't know this side of him that much. On Cable &Deadpool his telepathy was on insane level too.

I actually forgot that was a thing he could do. In every media adaptation outside comics; the original show, video games, Deadpool 2, this is the first time anyone's utilized it. It's always "future man with metal arm and future gun."

While we cannot wait to see what the next episode of the series has in store for Cable, for he did kill his mother/aunt, we can say for certain that X-Men ’97 is finally doing what Fox Movies failed to do.
And if Josh Brolin does come back as Cable in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, we hope he gets to use the character’s powers and not just remain as the future man with a metal arm.
