And the recent updates surrounding the film suggest that fans might not endure the same drastic experience in the next installment.
Amid numerous conflicting reports surrounding the movie, new updates have stated that the studio is currently looking for a new writer and director for the movie, which is expected to begin filming next year with the Thor star.
Marvel Studios is Reportedly Looking For a New Writer And Director For Thor 5
Insider Daniel Richtman has shared some new updates about Chris Hemsworth’s next solo feature in the MCU, Thor 5. According to the insider, the studio is in search of a new writer and director for the fifth installment in the Thor film series, which is allegedly scheduled to start filming in the Fall of 2025.
As per Richtman, the film is “listed as happening on the grid to film Fall 2025.” However, he also shared that there are no certain updates regarding the film’s release schedule. “Not sure if it means it will be a post-Secret Wars project, my bet would be yes,” the report stated.
Taika Waititi, who directed the last two installments in the Thor film series, has been heavily criticized for his handling of the character. He has earlier confirmed that he would not be returning as the director of the next installment.
The Creator director Gareth Edwards has been rumored to take on the directorial duties for Thor 5. He has addressed such rumors, expressing his love for MCU films. While he shared that he prefers to pursue original sci-fi projects, Edwards remained open to the idea, saying, “I never say never.”
With the studio seeking new creative leadership, the next Thor film is expected to take a significant shift to a more serious and dark tone, in contrast to the overly comedic approach of Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.
George Miller Addressed the Prospect of Directing Thor 5
Following their collaboration on the post-apocalyptic action film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, there have been numerous discussions about George Miller taking on the directorial duties for Chris Hemsworth’s return as the God of Thunder.
The filmmaker recently addressed the possibility of working with the Marvel star in the future. “I would work with Chris on anything. I really would. He’s a wonderful actor,” he told ComicBook.com. “He’s got the full range of all the skills,” he further said.
He further praised the Furiosa star, saying, “I mean, you’ve got to be athletic, physically. But, you also gotta be athletic emotionally and intellectually to take on these very, ultimately fairly complex, any role really.”
Hemsworth has also shared that he had a great time working with the filmmaker and praised Miller for his meticulous planning, where every frame was purposeful and contributed to the overall message, resulting in no wasted effort.
