Jacob Elordi is in the news these days for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla. Coppola’s movie departs from the popular idea of celebrating The King of Rock and Roll’s career and instead sets its sights on his relationship with wife Priscilla Presley.
Adapted from Priscilla’s memoir Elvis and Me, the film chronicles Elvis’ obsession with control in his life, which sees him demand Priscilla – who was 14 when he met her – drop everything to just focus on him. Conveying such a layered character must’ve been a challenge for Elordi. Still, it was certainly not as tricky and miserable for him as starring in a Netflix trilogy.
How Jacob Elordi Felt During the Filming of His Netflix Trilogy
Jacob Elordi‘s breakout role came in 2018, starring in the Netflix romantic comedy The Kissing Booth as Noah Flynn opposite Joey King (Elle Evans). The role of a high school heartthrob with enough abs to melt any teenage girl and at the same time enough brains to break open Harvard’s doors shot the Australian actor to stardom.
Netflix capitalized on the success of The Kissing Booth and produced two more sequels in 2020 and 2021. On paper, such a start in Hollywood seems like a dream for many aspiring actors. However, Elordi supposedly didn’t enjoy being a teen movie heartthrob and often felt miserable.
“I didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies,” he told GQ. “Those movies are ridiculous. They’re not universal. They’re an escape.”
Many talents who are more keen on doing serious work often end up accepting such roles to just remain active in the industry and of course, earn big bucks. But the idea of doing “one for them, one for me” has its own risks. Elordi stated:
“That one’s a trap as well. Because it can become 15 for them, none for you. You have no original ideas and you’re dead inside. So it’s a fine dance. My ‘one for them,’ I’ve done it.”
The 26-year-old, who also played Nate Jacobs in the highly acclaimed television series Euphoria, is starting to get roles that challenge the thespian inside of him in an encouraging way. Both Elordi and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) are earning plenty of plaudits for their performance in the complicated musical romantic.
Jacob Elordi Dated His Netflix Trilogy Co-star Joey King in Real Life
Elordi might’ve not enjoyed filming The Kissing Booth, but behind the scenes, he apparently had a good time, finding his romantic partner in his co-star Joey King.
The Kissing Booth trilogy starts with Elle Evans’ forbidden romance with the hottest boy in high school, Noah. Interestingly, the filming of the movie also led to a romantic spark between Elordi and King, who were spending several hours a day together due to the filming schedule. What started as friendship quickly turned into something more intimate.
“But before long I started to realize, ‘Hey, I think I kind of like this person!’ It was such an interesting experience meeting your boyfriend on set because you spend so much time together and become so close so fast,” the actress told Bello magazine.
Having said that, while their on-screen romance lasted for three years, their off-screen romance ended after late 2018.
