The Marvel fans seem to be suffering one disappointment after another. While the MCU is busy looking for a Kang replacement to no avail, Steven Yeun, a fan-favorite cast for the role of Sentry, has left the upcoming anticipated project, Thunderbolts. His exit has certainly left fans disappointed but what is even more disappointing for Marvel fans is his alleged replacement.
As per popular scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel is reportedly eyeing The Walking Dead actor, Austin Abrams, for the complicated hero/anti-hero, Sentry. And not a lot of fans are happy to have him on board.

Marvel Wants To Cast Austin Abrams As Sentry After Steven Yeun’s Exit
Steven Yeun broke a lot of hearts, destroyed a lot of hopes, and disappointed the rest when he said goodbye to the role of Sentry in Marvel’s upcoming film, Thunderbolts, despite being a fan-favorite cast. The Walking Dead actor was and still is the top choice of countless Marvel fans for the role, but ever since his exit, the studio has been busy looking for a suitable replacement.
Since the film has been in production for a long time, and last-minute cast changes will only delay the movie further, it is being reported that Marvel wants another The Walking Dead star, Austin Abrams as Sentry in Thunderbolts (via @DanielRPK).
Last seen in Euphoria and set to star in the upcoming Wolfs, the actor has been a part of numerous projects albeit in small roles. While Abrams is certainly a great actor, many fans are concerned about how he can portray the role of Sentry, a character with incredible superpowers which makes him one of the most powerful beings in the whole Marvel Comic Book Universe.
Fans even stated that if Marvel is eyeing him as Sentry, it is probably because they want to portray the character before he gained his superpowers when he was just a scrawny drug addict. However, nothing is confirmed yet and the news of The Walking Dead actor’s casting is just a speculation.
Why Did Steven Yeun Left Marvel’s Thunderbolts?
Steven Yeun was a fan-favorite actor to portray the role of the tragic hero/anti-hero Sentry, the rumored villain in the upcoming Thunderbolts. However, the actor let down numerous comic book fans when he announced he would be leaving the project. But letting go was not an easy decision for Yeun, who described in an interview with Variety that he had to write quite a bit of email drafts before leaving for good.
“It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out.”
As for his exit, he stated the following reasons,
“I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it. But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.”
He further added that while he did leave the film, he is open to more Marvel movies and roles in the near future. While he might not have gotten to play Sentry, fans sincerely hope the actor can either play a possible alternate version of the character or another Marvel role befitting of him.
After much delay, Thunderbolts is slated to release on July 25, 2025.
