Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya have been some of the hottest pairs trending everywhere lately, all thanks to the chemistry they shared onscreen while shooting for the 2021 blockbuster, Dune. In fact, as they got spotted together multiple times even after the shoot was over, many speculated that there must be something more going on between them than just hardcore friendship.
However, the duo was quick to turn down all such rumors, claiming they were nothing more than just “close friends”. And now, with the promotion of their second film together Dune: Part Two at the peak, the pair have further proven the status of their relationship as Timothée Chalamet recently admitted that filming romantic moments with Zendaya for the film was “weird as hell” for him.
Timothée Chalamet calls Romantic Moments with Zendaya “Weird as Hell”
Recently, amid all the promotions for the soon-to-be-released Dune: Part Two, Timothée Chalamet and co-star Austin Butler got into an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight to discuss the second film of the Dune film series.
During this, Chalamet was asked about his experience of shooting the romantic scenes with Zendaya in it. Initially laughing off about it when the interviewer asked if it was “natural” for them to shoot it, the Willy Wonka star said:
“It’s not weird in the scope of the movie, but we have a joke here. I mean, I don’t wanna say it, I don’t wanna say the word here cuz, you know, but it’s just like… in another nature, it’s weird as hell! Because, like, we’re so close platonically, so it’s just the strangest part of the job.”
While he said this to share his experience of filming those specific scenes with someone whom he considers a “close friend”, this statement only further proves that nothing is going on between him and Tom Holland‘s girlfriend than just pure friendship.
Continuing, Chalamet further expressed how “super strange” it all felt to him, but all the while adding that they managed to do it by thinking of it as just a part of their job:
“In the scope of the movie, it’s totally (Laughs) what is happening. I also feel like we’re so tight now, it really is just another day at work. I don’t know what that says about the nature of our jobs, but it’s just another day at work. (Laughs)”
Well, there you have it: Timothée Chalamet leaving no room for any further speculation of a possible romance between him and Dune co-star Zendaya.
Zendaya Echoed similar Thoughts on on-screen Romance with Timothée Chalamet
During another interview with Entertainment Tonight, this time with Zendaya and Florence Pugh, this issue was raised yet again, though this time, it was Zendaya answering instead of Timothée Chalamet. And her answer was nothing short of quite the same as her Dune co-star’s.
Sharing how it felt to shoot those onscreen moments, the Spider-Man: Homecoming actress said:
“It’s a little weird, no, definitely. It’s definitely strange, and I think both of us are just like, ‘Alright, this is our job, okay, we’re gonna do this, alright?’ And then cut! And then it’s right back to… you know what I mean. (Laughs) So, um, definitely.”
If anything, Tom Holland’s girlfriend seems to be reminding the world just whose girl she is. (Spider-Man’s!)
At the same time, Zendaya also admitted how necessary this relationship was; praising Denis Villeneuve for having carved such a beautiful relationship for her and Chalamet’s characters, i.e. Paul Atreides and Chani, amid “the epicness that is the Dune universe”. She said:
“But I also think, in this specific love story, I think we’re so grateful to have Denny [Denis Villeneuve] at the helm of this very special thing, and he always found a way to, somehow, amongst all of the epicness that is the Dune universe, find a way to carve out a very sentimental beautiful love story that was, I feel, in many respects, earned.”
All in all, the gist of this story is that all the rumors and speculations about Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya sharing some real-life romance have been crushed once and for all by the co-stars; to the point where they should cease to exist now.
Dune: Part Two will be hitting the theatres by the 15th of March, 2024.
